I love - She seems like a straight shooter as well as being a pretty talented - In an interview she admitted to being a pretty awful - She talked about how frustrating it is to achieve expectations when you have so little time and lack Hollywood production to bring the extra magic to your work. But, as we know, auditions are our reality. In fact, until you’re so successful you no longer have to audition, they really are your job. Learn to focus. Learn to play. Learn to stay ready.

Happy New Year! 2020 was a long arduous adventure for all of us. Right before the New Year, Tony posted a video celebrating 45 years of sobriety. He talked about choosing to live and gave comforting advice. He shared this wonderful quote from the late Basil King. Now is the time to prepare. Now is the time to focus. Change is coming. Are you ready. Actor’s Instinct Zoom Class and Coaching have been a blessing during this pandemic. Stay Ready!

Oscar winner Kate Winslet has some amazing advice on the craft of acting. She says a teacher long ago set her on the right path by telling her “Prepare, don’t plan.”
I often ask students how they can practice at home. Here’s Kate talking about one of the traps with self preparation: “Try not to look in the mirror too much, you rehearse a scene in front of the mirror and you like the way you have said something or done something, and you will keep picturing yourself doing it the way you liked rather than being present in the moment! No mirrors, not good!”
Exactly! She adds that actors need to fill themselves up. The richness of life’s experience is what informs your work!
Keep it real!!!

Clint Eastwood has 12 Oscar Nominations (2 for acting) and 5 wins. Love him or hate him (check your politics please, this man has been a joy to watch since I was a kid) he’s a bonafide movie star and 2 time Oscar winning director. He knows what it takes!
He talked about directing actors: “there’s just a lot of tricks that you do after enough years, you learn a lot of tricks to make people comfortable. That’s about all you can do. The people have talent. All actors have the ability to do great things. They just need to be helped in a nice way. You don’t have to have people in their eye line. You don’t have to have bells going off. You don’t have to have people yelling, assistant directors yelling and what have you. You just don’t need that. You just keep it nice and quiet and everybody can have a nice time.”
Preach it Clint!
