Leila Steinberg founded Alternative Intervention Models (AIM) as a safe space to discover, develop and exault young writers out of her living room in the Oakland bay area during the late 1990's as an extension of artistic nutruing she did for a teenage Tupac Shakur long before 2Pac became one of the most important voices of our time. Each week, rappers, singers, actors, dancers and poets from 7 to 70 gather at class to perform their original talents focused on a specific topic or theme. Artist Educators trained in the methodology established by Leila's heART Education curriculum, moderate the discussion group. Supportive and constructive feedback from a diverse audience that often includes multi-ethnic, multi-generational and multi-socio-economic members is encouraged. From hip-hop to jazz, tragedy to comedy, very personal to broadly applicable -- participants gain empowerment to their perspective, empathy to their pain, and embrace the freedom of expression that creativity promotes. Donations of $10 or more are truly appreciated, but no one will be turned away because of an inability to pay. Volunteers are always needed - please email today for more information.
