This half moon, we honor Wendell Berry, who just passed away.

This poem is one I have turned to time & time again “when despair grows in me.”

And like he writes, it’s the peace of wild nature that soothes my wary heart and troubled mind.

Author & activist Sarah Wilson made a post a few days ago saying “The grownups are leaving us to face home alone.” It feels like that, loosing some of the elders and legends who used their art and activism to make life more kind & beautiful.

As we face the vast reality of the times we’re living in, the heartbreak of the floods in Nepal, the psychosis of the billionaire imperial death cult, the most recent climate update from the UN… I draw on the teachings of environmentalist and Buddhist scholar, Joanna Macy.

I honor the need for grief & praise, I recommit to not numbing out.

I root deeper in my felt sense of belonging and love to the Earth as Mother.

I feed the humble bees with my delight in ordinary moments, I offer my presence and thanks to the web of life.

And I reach for poetry.

How do you feed the forces of balance within you & around you in these unbalanced times?

🌹Camille Edwards - Guest Speaker🌹

June is the final month of our 10 month journey through the wheel of the year. The theme is “Celebration & Fruition”.

In June, we reap the fruit of our deep work and ecstatic play together.

What will fruit for you is always a mystery.. it is through this deep and direct relationship with the plants that new seeds sprout within you and life transforms. 🌼

June curriculum brings us lessons on harvesting herbs, growing the summer garden, and rituals of celebration and completion.

I am so delighted to welcome graduate of the Sacred Wild Camille Edwards, who will share about her experience of the fruits she is cultivating after her apprenticeship with the Earth and Sacred Plants.

Camille has opened an incredible healing and community center in Ojai called Wild Qi and will share how the Wise Woman Tradition and the practices we embody of regeneration can be applied to your passion project, career or your life’s work.

The Wise Woman in Business: Growing Wild Qi through Regenerative Principles

Camille graduated from the apprenticeship in 2025, leaving her career as a corporate lawyer to build Wild Qi, an integrative medicine campus for women in Ojai, CA.

She and her founding partner Dr. Nathalie Shapiro built Wild Qi in the Wise Woman way: through deep listening, community-building, and grass-roots partnerships.

In this talk, Camille will share how the principles of the Wise Woman tradition and the School of the Sacred Wild can manifest in entrepreneurship and business in a way that is regenerative, community-based, and sustaining.

Camille Edwards is a lawyer, business entrepreneur, and facilitator. In her role as co founder of Wild Qi, Camille runs strategy, operations, and business development.

Camille’s journey from corporate law to community leadership was largely inspired by her time in the apprenticeship for the School of the Sacred Wild.

🌹Ira Christian - Guest Speaker🌹

May’s theme in the Apprenticeship to the Sacred Wild is “Polinate and Alchemize”.

This is the month when the flowers literally sing a song to call in their pollinators and the great erotic and creative exchange of Nature communication happens that results in food, fruit, life and within us humans — creative inspiration and motivation. 🌺🐝

In May, we make flower essences, work with herbs to open and heal the throat chakra, and embody the energy of pollination with the more than human world.

My husband, wilderness tracker, survivalist, educator, and the director of Manzanita School’s expeditionary learning program and outdoor education program, Ira Christian Ira Christian will offer an immersion into the many ways the Earth communicates with us in his class:

Communicating Directly with the Earth

Ira will share stories and practices to awaken our capacity for direct communication with the Earth.

Earth is always communicating, and we are always receiving information through our senses.

Ira will share tips and techniques for awakening our sense  to become more attuned to the expression of the earth around us at all times.

He will also share his own explorations and teachings he has been given around how we can communicate back to the earth using our voices and our hands.

Ira Christian is an earth educator who has spent the last 15 years helping people of all ages build a direct relationship with the natural world.

A certified Specialist wildlife tracker and teacher of nature awareness and survival skills, Ira’s work centers on learning to communicate with the Earth through wildlife tracking, bird language, ancestral skills, and handcrafts.

A teacher, artist, and musician, Ira creates artwork and songs rooted in his experiences in—and love for—the wild Earth.

For the past 10 years, he has served as the Director of Outdoor Studies at Manzanita School Manzanita School , a groundbreaking nature-based K–12 private school in the Los Angeles area of California.

You can find his music on Bandcamp, his new single “Food of the Mountain” on spotify & follow him on ig Ira Christian to hear when his album drops.

🌹Paula Wild - Guest Speaker🌹

April’s theme in the Apprenticeship to the Sacred Wild is “Nourish and Bloom”.

The energy of March’s fire activation softens as the Earth blushes in hues of spring time green, wild weeds abound, and us witches learn wildharvesting and ancestral food medicine. 🌿

April’s theme and herbs bring us into the heart chakra and the element of Air. 💨

My beloved sister, yogi, teacher, and non profit business director Paula Wild Paula Wild will bring us the teachings of Ayurveda and the Nervous System to help us balance the air element that is so present in the early springtime, and in the western minds of us modern people in her class:

Shelter from the Storm: Elemental Practices for the Sensitive Body and the Wandering Mind

We live in windy times. Information, stimulation, movement, and change swirl around us, while our own thoughts can scatter like leaves across an open field.

For sensitive beings, the air element can be both a blessing and a challenge: the source of imagination, perception, breath, and connection—and of restlessness, overwhelm, and disembodiment.

Drawing from Ayurveda, Buddhist teachings, and earth-based practices, Paula will explore how we can work skillfully with air rather than being carried away by it.

We will begin with a gentle, mostly reclined movement practice to open the joints, awaken the spine, and bring awareness home to the body.

From there, we will explore simple ways to tend the senses, calm and befriend the mind, receive the medicine of wind and spaciousness, and recognize when it is time to seek warmth, weight, darkness, earth, and shelter.

You will leave with an embodied movement practice and a small apothecary of everyday ways to become more calm, kind, and clear.

🌹Nisha Moodley - Guest Speaker🌹

March brings the Apprentices to the Sacred Wild into the solar plexus of our bodies, drinking herbs for the digestive system, learning about the gut - soil - brain connection, activating our inner power, working with the Earth’s energy of Spring Equinox & the fire element.🔥

The theme of March is “Awaken and Sprout” and we draw on the nourished roots we have established over our 6 months together since starting in September.

We bring the wisdom of the Earth and our intimate relationship to the plantcestors up through our center of creativity and into our center of action.

I am so honored to welcome leadership mentor, community cultivator and the founder of Global Sisterhood Day and The Center for Devotional Leadership, Nisha Moodley to teach:

Cultivating Matriarchal Leadership

Nisha shares:

“As we deepen into our sacred work, we are called to expand our leadership in a multitude of ways – using our voices in ways that honor our values, building in ways that liberate our bodies from hustle culture and our commerce from coercive capitalism, welcoming visibility, and more.

This gathering is an exploration of how we can meet these leadership edges and support our work to be a powerful thread in the weave of a more beautiful world.”

For nearly 20 years, Nisha has led intimate councils, online courses, and over 60 retreats – walking with deep-hearted, visionary, culture-making women: entrepreneurs, healers, and artists who are committed to giving their gifts in service of a more just and beautiful future.

As a single mother who holds a lot; as a biracial woman who grew-up in a family that was passionate about liberation, democracy, and justice; and with a background in health & executive coaching, ancestral healing, and community building – Nisha has a passion for shifting the conversation around leadership to include the realms of spirit and soul, and to radically uplift us all.

🌹 Sylvia Victor Linsteadt - Guest Speaker🌹

Febuary’s theme in the Apprenticeship to the Sacred Wild is “Love and Blissipline”.

The Erotic in Nature begins to stir in the belly of the Earth.

We connect to Imbolc, and awaken our own energy from the restored depths with Sacral Chakra tonics and herbs for the reproductive system.  Apprentices learn about yoni steaming, aphrodisiacs, & herbal rituals for beauty.

What a wonderful time to welcome one of my new favorite authors Sylvia Linsteadt for her talk:

Artemisia Dreaming: Stories of the Birth Goddesses of Old Europe

Sylvia Victor Linsteadt is an author, a scholar of ancient history and myth, and certified wildlife tracker. She is an associate of the Institute of Archaeomythology in Northern California, and has completed graduate level research at the University of Exeter with a focus on themes of maternity and the motherline as they relate to classical reception in early 20th century literature.

Sylvia’s writing—both fiction & non-fiction—is rooted in myth, ecology, feminism & bioregionalism, and is devoted to broadening our human stories to include the voices of the living land. She has a special devotion to the history, earth, language, music and mythscapes of Crete, where she lived on and off from 2018-2021 and where she continues to visit, study, dance and dream.

She has authored The Venus Year, SOOTH, Our Lady of the Dark Country, two novels for young readers, The Wild Folk and The Wild Folk Rising, Tatterdemalion.
Her works of nonfiction include the award-winning Lost Worlds of the San Francisco Bay Area, Wonderments of the East Bay, as well as numerous essays. She is currently working on a forthcoming title about myths and fairytales connected to pregnancy and childbirth for September/Duckworth, to be published in February 2027.

🌹 Woniya Thibeault - Guest Speaker🌹

In January, all of nature rests and dreams. This is our theme of the month in the Apprenticeship, and our time to work with herbs like Blue Lotus, Skullcap and Butterfly Blue Pea that help us embody this energy and find true healing, restoration and deep rest in the most yin months of the year.

It is a wonderful time for story medicine and myth. The Apprenticeship heals many of our relationship to rest and productivity, and so many apprentices who never liked winter say it becomes their favorite season.

Our guest expert is Woniya Thibeault, the incredible survivalist, teacher, author and the winner of the TV show “Alone”.

She will be helping us deepen to the wilderness within us and all around through her stories and teachings on surviving — and thriving “alone” in the wilderness for months.

Writer, educator, outdoorswoman, and naturalist, Woniya Thibeault is passionate about helping people become the wilder and freer humans they evolved to be.

Through her business, Timeless Ways, she offers workshops on ancestral skills, survival and surthrival, off-grid and land based living.

She is best known for her two appearances on the History Channel’s Survival Challenge Alone, where she was the first woman to win and holds the record for cumulative days in the wild on Alone.

Her memoir, Never Alone, A Solo Arctic Survival Journey, chronicles her first season on Alone and the life history that led to her taking on the challenge.

This October she’ll be hosting her first gathering on the 94 wild acres she purchased with her Alone winnings: Flicker, an immersive village experience in ancestral skills and land tending - and you are invited!
