Francesca has been playing music since she was a baby. She has natural rhythm and is always listening for new beats and tracks.

She loves to listen to music in the car with her mom and lots of vinyl with her dad at home. She started with piano lessons and quickly turned over to percussion. Drums lessons with James have been really fun and she is learning so much!

Her favorite musical artist right now is Lady Gaga, but she’s obsessed with the song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers.

What?
We are hosting a workshop for you to get comfortable on our stage and receive some performance feedback from our professional instructors! Each student will be able to perform their piece in front of the class and the class instructor. Our instructor will give each student some advice and suggestions to elevate their performance. Students can take the advice from other student’s practice performance and apply it to their own piece!

This year, our workshop will be led by our voice and piano teacher, Nic B! Our piano teacher and admin, Nick K. will also be assisting this workshop.

Only a maximum of 5 students can attend this group. This form is first-come, first served. Depending on demand, we will add a 2nd group starting at 4 pm.

⭐️ TEACHER SPOTLIGHT ⭐️ May’s Teacher Spotlight is our voice and piano teacher, Nic B! 🎹 🎤 Read more about Nic below:

After earning their BFA in Jazz Piano Performance from Cornish College of the Arts, Nic Brannen realized that the Seattle jazz scene was very much a boys’ club. Like many artists before them, they had to pivot in order to make a sustainable living from their music. They found their way into musical theatre accompaniment, where they had the privilege of working with incredible Broadway artists like Don Darryl Rivera.

After coming out as non-binary, the next step in Nic’s career and personal life was to become a transgender vocal coach. They were the first vocal coach at their school to specialize in androgynous voice training.

By the time Nic moved to Los Angeles, they had rediscovered their love for jazz, now with a deeper drive to experiment with its language. During this time, they started working at Green Brooms Music while pursuing a Master’s Degree in Composition and Experimental Sound Practices from the California Institute of the Arts. There, they composed a 22-hour opera, built instruments out of body casts, and also taught one-on-one jazz piano lessons at CalArts.

After graduation, Nic earned a faculty position at Idyllwild Arts Academy, the #1 Niche Arts High School in the U.S.

“I am a big Olivia Rodrigo fan and I thought it would be cool to be able to sing and play the piano like Olivia. So I started taking lessons with Tayman and have been able to do just that! Tayman is a great instructor because she is kind and thoughtful and she also pushes me hard enough to get better.”
