The Santa Maria High School boys basketball team delivered an unforgettable postseason run that ended in heartbreaking fashion at the CIF Central Section Division 5 Championship game in Fresno, where the Saints fell 63–62 in the final moments. After battling throughout the season and carrying the hopes of their school and community, Santa Maria appeared poised to capture its first CIF title in decades, even building a lead as large as 15 points during the game. With the score tied late, a last-second sequence resulted in free throws with just 0.2 seconds remaining, and the narrow defeat was sealed. Despite the loss, SMHS is incredibly proud of the entire team for their resilience, determination, and heart. They brought tremendous excitement, unity, and pride to our campus, energizing students, staff, families, and alumni throughout their historic playoff run. This team represented Santa Maria High School with class and courage, and their accomplishments will be remembered long after the final buzzer.
