Meet Babatunji Johnson, our Teaching Artist in Residence and the choreographer behind our December 11th show, Collective Pulse!

His movement language blends ballet, contemporary, breaking, and hip hop.

For this piece, he's working directly with our NDI New Mexico students, professional artists from his San Francisco company, and dancers from UNM's Department of Theatre and Dance.

Collective Pulse is about what happens when different generations and different backgrounds move together. It's a reminder that our differences shape us, but our shared humanity is what brings us back to each other.

Hispanic Heritage Month starts September 15!

At NDI New Mexico, we get to celebrate this all year through our students, families, and Teaching Artists. This month especially, we're honoring the culture and stories they bring into every studio and classroom.

The Dance Barns will be closed Monday, September 14 through Thursday, September 17 due to essential HVAC work that requires a full building shutdown.

During this time, all classes scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be canceled.

What This Means for Your Dancer
All Monday through Thursday classes are canceled next week, including Adult Classes. Friday 9/18 and Saturday 9/19 classes will be held as usual and are not affected by this closure.

Although the building and offices will be closed, we're still available by phone at 505-795-7088 and by email at [email protected].

Labor Day started as a day to honor workers, the people whose daily effort holds up entire communities.��⁠

At NDI New Mexico we honor our Teaching Artists, who brought In-School programs to 100 schools in 29 communities, reaching 8,000 children across the state in this year alone.⁠

This month, director and choreographer Quinn Wharton spent time in the studio with our Company dancers on a new work about coming of age.⁠

Quinn's built a career shooting and directing organization and artists around the country. As one of our Teaching Artists in Residence, he brings his same creative vision into the room with our students, on and off camera.

Quinn's piece is being featured in NDI's Spring Into Motion performance on February 20-21, 2027 at The Dance Barns!

Fall After-School classes at The Hiland Theater are underway, but there's still time to register!

This season, dancers of all ages and experience levels can choose from classes in ballet, contemporary, modern, tap, jazz, hip-hop, breaking, musical theatre, and more. We are also excited to introdudce several new offerings:
