NMSPA student parent advisor and SFCC student parent Ari Armijo-Chavez tells us about how she practices self-care, including during a recent weekend where she and her family supported her 11-year old brother-in-law while he participated in Zozobra, an annual Santa Fe tradition, as a "gloomy.":
"Self-care: The practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and
happiness, in particular during periods of stress. This definition sounds a lot like helping my brother in law’s lifelong dream come one step closer and celebrating him with my daughter, even when there’s assignments due. Or even, using what we own for a fun day so the adults don’t have to think about a plan while planning dinner. And most closely to me, that definition sounds like taking it slow with your daughter in the mornings before school and talking about our days after school on the trampoline before the after dinner studying starts. Self-care sometimes isn’t just time alone. It can be living in those happy memories that
are created while spending time with your family and balancing school."
