Another solid night in the books.

Front headlocks and building the habit of transitioning.

Not stalling on one submission.

Progress over ego always!

Crew coming back together and staying consistent. Missing a few but the energy is right.

Deep diving into front headlocks and ending sessions with live back attacks. 40% defending, 20% attacking, learning to live in the transitions to get into your attacks has definitely brought a different energy.

As a coach, my goal is always to focus on building a solid foundation and making a real impact in a student’s life through jiu-jitsu.

The first time I met Harmony, she wanted to jump into a competition with less than two weeks of training. She went out there, took on the tournament, and came home with a gold medal.

Fast forward to last weekend — her and her family were visiting from halfway across the world, heard about a local tournament, and she decided to sign up again. Once more, she outclassed both opponents with beautiful technique, submitting both to take home another gold medal 🥇.

She’s passionate about the sport, always smiling, and the trust and friendship from her parents .of.a.midwife means more than I can express. I’m incredibly grateful they made the visit back to where it all started for her.

Harmony has now earned her Grey/White belt from City Different Jiu-Jitsu, and I know she’ll represent it proudly and fiercely.

Congrats, kiddo! Until next time 🫶🏽💪🏽

So proud of our three competitors from City Different Jiu-Jitsu who went out and represented today 👊

Peck has only been back in town for a week and still decided to jump in. She went out, submitted both her opponents, and showed great composure and technique throughout the day.

Mia had three matches, won two by submission, and finished with an absolute barn burner of a final match, taking the win 9–6.

Young Liam went out there today without knowing I had bumped him up a skill level. He handled the challenge well, showed good composure throughout his matches, and gained valuable experience. Tough day, but an important one, and he’s ready to get back to work.

Overall, I couldn’t be prouder of these kids for testing themselves and stepping out to compete. Regardless of the outcome, that’s what matters most. As a coach, I couldn’t ask for more.

Young Trey out here doing his thing this past weekend and taking home the strap! Trey out scored his opponents 20-6 and showed a different style than what we’re use to seeing from him, showcasing that he can not only win by submissions but can look to outpoint you as well. Cool fact about Trey as well out of the 5 grey belts he’s gone against he’s only lost once!

Last weekend, the Odell kids went out and represented not only City Different Jiu-Jitsu, but also and the growth was incredible to watch.

The results speak for themselves: Bryce stepped into two divisions and brought home a 1st and a 3rd place finish, and Riley secured a well-earned 1st as well.

BadCats took 1st as a team in the girls division, with the boys/open division earning a strong 3rd place finish.

As a coach, it was genuinely inspiring to watch another coaching staff pour into their athletes the same way we do. Seeing the kids transition from jiu-jitsu wrestling into folkstyle wrestling so smoothly and seeing coaches who truly put the kids first, was something special to witness.

Couldn’t be prouder of Liam and how he competed yesterday. He had two tough matches that went the distance, losing both on points — but he’s never been pushed like that before, and he stepped up and did the damn thing.

This was only his second tournament. His first time out, he went 2-0 and took home first place. Yesterday tho He went 0-2. But what really stood out was what he told his dad while we were waiting for medals: “I came here to compete. I didn’t come for a medal.”

That’s growth. That’s maturity. That’s heart.

The amount of progress Liam has made since he first started is incredible. He handled those losses like a champ — no excuses, no complaints — and he’s already ready to get back to work on Monday. This is what the journey is all about.
