The Institute was created by New York Times, Amazon and USA Today bestselling novelist and memoirist Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, and acclaimed psychologist and author Dr. Katherina Ortega Courtney, both native New Mexicans who've found national and international recognition for literary excellence. Valdes-Rodriguez, named one of the 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America for her books, is best known for her novels, The Dirty Girls Social Club, and Hollow Beasts, with more than 1 million books in print in 11 language around the world. Dr. Courtney is best known for her groundbreaking nonfiction book about the connections between generational and familial trauma and New Mexico's social ills, Ana, Age Eight. She's a licensed therapist, life coach and co-director of the Ana Age Eight Institute at New Mexico State University.
