The New Mexico School Boards Association conducted its 47th annual school law conference this past weekend at the Embassy Suites Hotel in (Albuquerque) School Board Members from across the state gathered to hear updates on the latest school laws and regulations affecting public schools. The keynote speaker was Raul Torrez State Attorney General and other speakers informed attendees in 18 separate breakout sessions. In addition region school board attendance awards were presented to 16 school boards, 24 student scholarships were announced and two Master Board Members received their certification at the conference.

School Board Members from across the country gathered in San Antonio, Texas last weekend to attend the national school board conference. New Mexico’s delegation was led by state president Marvin Jaramillo and officers, Terry O’Brian, Toby Willis, Patrick Cohn and Pauline Jaramillo. The school board delegation from New Mexico totaled almost 100 members who listened to general session keynote speakers, attended numerous workshops and training sessions and networked with board members from across the country sharing ideas and best practices. At their business meeting the association adopted national education and funding priorities, elected officers and reviewed the accomplishments of the past year. Next year‘s annual conference will be held in Washington DC. Enjoy the attached photos!

NMSBA Spring Region meetings concluded last night in Region VII for South Central NM school boards. Hosted by the Tularosa Board of Education attendees enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by district staff and were treated to student presentations and dances. Attendees elected region officers, heard an update on the 2026 Legislative Session and participated in a training presentation on school budgeting and finance. All agreed the meeting was a huge success.

NMSBA Spring Region meetings continued this week in Region III for northeast NM school boards. The West Las Vegas Board hosted the meeting which included student cheer and band performances, a delicious meal, region officer elections, legislative update and training workshop on performance based budgeting. Attendees shared best practices and all came away with new ideas and information

The Grants Cibola County Board of Education hosted the NMSBA Spring Region IV Meeting last night at the Cubero Elementary School. Board members from Central NM school districts were treated to music and science exhibits from area students, a delicious dinner and great hospitality. They re-elected region officers, listed to a legislative report and participated in an informative training session on performance based budgeting.

The Gallup McKinley Co. Board of Education hosted the NMSBA Spring Region I Meeting for northwest NM school boards Monday evening. The meeting began with a fabulous meal, outstanding student dancers, region officer elections and briefings on the NM Legislative Session and Performance Based Budgeting. All in attendance agreed this was a memorable and informative event. Thank you to our host board!👍

The NMSBA Spring Region Meeting tour moved to Lordsburg Tuesday evening for the Southwest New Mexico Region VIII school boards. Hosted by the Lordsburg board the meeting was a huge success and featured student videos, fabulous bbq dinner, region officer elections and concluded with a legislative update and training on board responsibilities and budget preparation best practices.

NMSBA’s Spring Region Meeting tour continued Monday evening for the Region VI Southeast NM school boards. The meeting was hosted by the Dora Board of Education and included student presentations by the Dora FFA officers, delicious BBQ dinner, region officer elections, legislative update and an informative briefing on performance based budgeting. All indicated the meeting was a great success!

NMSBA’s Spring Region Meeting tour continued Tuesday evening with the Eastern NM Region V boards being hosted by the Dora Board of Education. The meeting featured outstanding oratory presentations by two FFA students, a tasty steak and chicken dinner, election of region officers, and much networking among board members. The meeting concluded with a briefing on the 2026 Legislative Session and a workshop focused on performance based budgeting. All in attendance took back a wealth of information for their schools.

The New Mexico School Boards Association conducted the first of eight spring regional meetings for northern NM Region II school boards Monday evening. The Santa Fe Board of Education hosted the meeting which included student entertainment by the the Capital High School Guitar Ensemble, delicious dinner prepared by district staff, election of region officers, update on the 2026 Legislative Session and a briefing on Performance Based Budgeting. The meeting was a huge success and allowed board members to network and share best practices.
