DOWNEY FIREFIGHTER PUBLISHES BOOK!
Fire Engineer Renick Sampson recently wrote the book "THE GAME" to help fire candidates understand the many roles and expectations of a rookie firefighter, explaining several points that are critical for success during the probationary process, and providing some insight into the fire station life of probationary firefighters.
Renick has been with the DFD for over twenty years and is currently an engineer assigned to Truck 611-A at Fire Station #1. He has also been overseeing the department's auxiliary firefighter program for several years, mentoring volunteers testing to become professional firefighters.
Downey's Auxiliary Firefighter program is comprised of volunteers who have completed a state-sanctioned fire academy and are certified emergency medical technicians seeking field experience prior to being hired by an area fire department. Auxiliary firefighters volunteer one 24-hour shift per week and have similar duties/responsibilities as DFD's probationary firefighters. Many of DFD's auxiliaries have been hired by various fire departments within the Southern California region, including many of Downey's firefighters, past and present.
