Why do we spend the second week of school out of the classroom?

Because some things can’t be learned at a desk. Every fall, each grade level heads out on retreat to stretch their comfort zones and do it together, as a class.

The best part of a new school year? Coming back to the people and the place you love. We (Griffin) Gathered, we laughed our way through a whole-school game of rock paper scissors, and we shared a picnic in the park. Welcome back, Griffins 💙

Greetings from South Africa🇿🇦

Students have been immersed in the history, culture, and landscape of South Africa for the past week. Trip leader and Kirby history teacher Eva Schewe teaches “History, Literature & Art of South Africa,” and taking students to see the places they’ve studied has been a long-held goal.

The group began in Johannesburg at Constitution Hill and the Apartheid Museum, then continued to Kruger National Park for two days of safari, the dramatic Panorama Route, and the streets of Soweto where so much of the country’s history toward democracy unfolded. Now the group is in Cape Town, with Robben Island ahead. Swipe to see their journey so far.

Earth Day 🌏

The community came together for our annual Earth Day celebration featuring hands-on workshops and presentations. Topics spanned arts, STEM, and humanities: from clothing swaps to bike repairs to jewelry making, there was something for everybody.

This week, Kirby’s Chamber Choir is in Gainesville performing alongside UF’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers under Dr. Will Kesling. It’s a full circle moment for Choral Director Dr. Shichu Xie who studied under Dr. Will Kesling at UF. Now he’s back, with his own students, performing on the same stage.
