I beleive ADHD is political.
I’m q***r bi.
I WILL be posting burlesque videos.
I love and will fight for Black people and people of color, immigrants (abolish ice), q***r & trans people, disabled people, sexworkers, and all marginalized people.
I want every ADHDer to have less shame, less ‘shoulds’ and internalized ableism.
I value nuance and the ‘both and.’ Most things are complex in my brain. I have more questions than answers.
I’m really passionate about transformative justice. Cancel culure & punitive justice don’t do it for me.
I am a real imperfect human on the other side of the screen that will make mistakes. Don’t pedastal me.

Kaligirwa (Kaligirwa ) is a researcher, intersectional disability advocate and critical disabilities scholar. I have learned so much from them and am thrilled to have them on board.

I have a tendency to lean really heavy on lived experience accounts of adhd (which is super important), but I love that Kaligirwa takes such an evidence based approach so my work can be as balanced as possible.

I seriously have such a dream team: Blair Imani Ali • Smarter in Seconds , Sonny J & Divergent Pathways 😍😭 so honored & excited.

Re-uploading because a copy editor who follows me noticed I misspelled phenomenal in the previous version 😅. I don’t usually edit typos and always have many but it was too ironic here. BLESS the editors of the world 🙏🏼.

🙄 annoying, am I right?

ALT TEXT: I don’t know why I thought I was going to be able to work on my book between 10-2 when I have a 2pm post op call w/ my surgeon.

I have been anxiously staring at my computer for hours. I’m not even stressed about the apt... I just literally cannot transition out of waiting mode.

I thought I could beat the 2pm appointment waiting mode adhd allegations but alas here we are. Now I’m trying to accept the time ‘lost’ & commiting to no more 2pm apts or no more expectations of myself before them.

But not only do you deserve rest & joy because you’re a human being, but I genuinely believe it is often one of the most productive things we can do for adhd brains.

Dental related things are probably the only public facing thing I lose the facade of “high masking and high achieving”. I cry. I have panic attacks. I need a weighted blanket, headphones, reassurance, extra sedation, clarity on every single thing. I can’t function well in my daily life when something is upcoming or in flux. No matter how much logic I pull in, I can’t relax. I’ll be ok!

Sharing because these are the things that get lost behind years of masking & compensating. It can be hard for even ME to recognize when I’m struggling so much because I’m so used to pushing through. So often I don’t feel as disabled as other people and question my diagnosis (esp autism). Then I have experience like this and am reminded. Trying to just slow down and be kind and patient.

And super grateful to have a patient and amazing dental team!

😍🥹😭 So excited. It started with me interviewing for my adhd & intersectionality chapter. I ended up consulting with her on that chapter. And then we clicked so well and she was so unbelievably supportive of my book that I took her on as my full developmental editor. Having her support and input for my book means the absolute world and I feel so lucky. She’s so skilled at taking complex concepts and making them accessible which is a huge goal for my book, and something I really need help with.

What do you think about the title!? 🥰 I’m so excited and just got cleared to share. I miss you all so much and miss being active on here. Thanks for all the patience as I pour everything I’ve got into finishing this book 📖. Almost here!

I have another fun announcement coming this week so stay tuned!

The title idea came out of a series of “adhd love letters” I have done over the years on Instagram that people responded so well to.
