The Colorful Cats chalk drawing lesson landed in the hub a month ago but it honestly feels like yesterday. This project will be hanging out in New Lessons at the top of the hub for a few more months but you can also find it in Drawing, Animal Art and Under an Hour. Have
PS - if you don't want to use chalk pastel you can switch this way to oil pastel or even grab white paper and markers. It's a flexible lesson that can adapt to almost any age and medium.
This was a great mini project for the end of the year. The reveal with the liquid watercolor feels like magic.
One thing we learned is that you don’t want to press too hard when you are transfering the images with the ballpoint pen, which feels counterintuitive. When you press hard it makes engraved lines that sit lower than the surface of the paper so the watercolor pools there and the fibers of the watercolor paper get damaged which absorb the pigment. You really just want the oil pastel sitting on the surface of the paper, which requires a gentle touch.
When it did work, everyone was in awe. 😳🤩🤯😯
Thank you .art for posting this awesome oil pastel transfer process. I'm definitely going to repeat this one at summer camp.

Workshop Week was brilliant when they added five kids art classes. The idea that you can take the workshop of your choice while your kids do something constructive is genius, but I know a lot of art teachers are going to love my class too. I hope you come learn it and re-teach it in your art rooms, or if you are a homeschool family, come enjoy some special art time together.
