Do you work with spiritually evolving people and sometimes feel stymied as to how to help them? Maybe they seem stuck in a key area of life and it’s blocking them from reaching the goal they hired you for. The stars and the sky can help broaden your perspective and help you to access the insights you are looking for.

Conventional methods often don’t work for spiritual people; this is where Vedic astrology can be very helpful. It can shine a light on a client’s blindspots and mysteries. It offers the potential to clearly understand where they are stuck and why, how long they’ll be stuck there, and what you and they can focus on to make the biggest difference.

I’d like to offer you a 30 minute Vedic astrology consultation where we can discuss one of your clients and pinpoint dynamics that will help you help them even faster. There are no strings attached - my hope is that you'll find it so helpful that you'll think of me the next time you have a client who is struggling! I'm also available as an ongoing client supervision aide.

If you’ve never experienced a skilled Vedic astrologer before, you’d likely be very surprised at how much they could tell you about yourself or about a client of yours with no prior knowledge.

The counselors, coaches, and healers that I have worked with tell me that my work gives them a much clearer vision of their clients needs at different time scales. All the way from the big picture of ~2-5 years out down to the nitty gritty of week to week and month to month.

If you’d like to get a better sense of what I do, please check out the Vedic astrology readings page on my website or my substack. If you click the link in my bio, another link called “My Writing” will take you to my substack, and the link to my readings page is in the header of the website.

If you have any questions I’m more than happy to answer.Best,

Gabriel

What are the Vedas and what is Vedic 05/24/2024

Nature is very complicated and sophisticated, and difficult to understand from the perspective of the ordinary human mind; even modern science has established and validated this. Geckos make use of tiny molecular forces manipulated through millions of tiny hairs on their feet to stick to walls. Geese have specialized cells that allow them to detect the earth’s magnetic field to help them navigate their long migrations. Nutcracker birds weighing 5 ounces (~140g) are able to store 5000+ highly accurate and instantly retrievable maps of seeds that they have hidden away for times of need.

In order to make their understanding of the laws of nature accessible and teachable to other humans they needed to package it in some kind of digestible form. And so they encoded these truths as mystical poetry that encapsulates truth and makes it accessible. Or we might say that Ṛṣis are an expression of nature that nature made use of in order to help humans understand and come into alignment with natural law.

What are the Vedas and what is Vedic Part two: a rough picture from the beginning

In early August of 2010, I got up early to catch an express train from Kitakyushu to Fukuoka. I had been living in Japan for less than two weeks, and was still very much orienting myself. I found almost everything fascinating.

On the surface, things didn’t seem all that different. Everyone was Japanese which was very different, but people didn’t dress that differently and most of the sights I was seeing seemed roughly familiar. Upon a closer look though almost everything was different - and fascinatingly so!

People seemed much more socially and spatially oriented; they paid close attention to the physical space between them and others, and to what was happening around them. They seemed much more present when engaging with others. For example, in simple interactions such as checking out at grocery store the clerks seemed much more attentive in their mannerisms with customers and with how they spoke. All in all, I noticed a meticulous organization and fine attention to detail that seemed to pervade every aspect of life. As someone who loves details, I felt very at home.

It’s been a wonky couple of days…!

Challenge and difficulty is in the air.

Let me share a little story with you from my life these past few days. It’s not a glamorous story, because this isn’t a glamorous full moon. It has to do with challenges and decision making.

On Thursday, I missed a connecting flight by about 5 minutes for no good reason; I was simply tired and spaced out.

Instead of flying on to Victoria at 3:30 I was lucky to barely get the last spot on the next flight at 9pm. I was not stoked about that. I was already pretty tired at that point from a full day of travel. My sleep lately has been restless and chock full of intense processing dreams. I find myself cranky and irritable…

These are symptoms of a turbulent and unsettled full moon! Can I blame the full moon for how I feel? Absolutely not.

I am human though, and most humans feel more cheerful on a bright and sunny day than a windy and cold one; it’s like that.

After a month or so of mostly pleasant astrological weather, we have rapidly plunged into the friction zone. And within that zone this full moon lies a seed of great potential.

Since the 20th we have been in a battle between the action and pleasure oriented parts of ourselves; Mars and Venus.

It’s definitely a time when your disciplined and focused action should come before your pursuit of pleasure. While waiting for my plane the other day I happily typed away while listening to good music - right past my deadline to board and only 200 feet from my gate.

If I had been just a little more diligent the rest of my day would have been that much nicer. Thankfully the worst has passed, and the tension between our pleasure and our to do list will linger for quite some time.

And that point’s to they key to it all - discipline. This full moon has Saturn written all over it; Saturn sits directly across from the where he feels at home and is very strong. 5 of the 9 planets sit in Saturn’s two home signs - effectively forced to play by Saturn’s rules. Saturns rules can be boiled down to “You reap what you sow”.

So sow good things.

If you find yourself reaping not so good things then start making things better with courage and determination to make things better. Generally speaking, these next few months will be full of challenges and also full of opportunity.

When the gate agent told me that I couldn’t board my flight, I was pretty upset for a few minutes. After processing the shock, I asked him what he could do and explained that we were tired from traveling all day. He managed to get on us on the last flight for the day, and gave us directions to the meditation room at the airport. We went straight there and had a nice long rest.

You can always make the best of any situation; and in the long run it will always work in your favor. Saturn is all about the long run.

Finally, the exact full moon lands in Magha, the asterism (nakśatra) connected to royalty and to the ancestors (pitṛ). It’s a good time to connect with and appreciate the continuous chain of humans you have to thank for the body you live in!

The most prominent star in Magha, is Regulus a bright star named after the mythical founder and first ruler of Rome. This star connects us to our right to rule, and you must become the ruler of your own life. Nobody else can watch over your domain; are you exercising your right to rule?

Does your queen come out when deciding whether to go to Machu Picchu or Tokyo for vacation? Or is she the one who decides whether the family will be having fettuccine with pesto or smoky eggplant curry for dinner? Does your king demand to be served in the bedroom (or want to demand)? Or is he more likely to show up when deciding between an affordable used Rav4 or a save on gas sexy new Tesla?

Let your inner Monarch out in the areas of your life it needs to rule, and do it with discipline and the long term perspective in mind. Full moons are a climax and everything is amplified; focus on that worthy of increase in your life and build the kingdom of your heart’s desire.

Keep in mind that this is all relative to your birth chart. And that transits are a tertiary influence, and pale in comparison to the importance of your birth chart and dashas (seasons of life).

May you Rule Well!

Gabe

On this last lunar waning phase, Amāvásyā, may we honor our Ancestors, the Pitṛ; the chain of continuity that allows us to enjoy these bodies. They sacrificed much to have children and raise them, and were also greatly blessed; going back hundreds and thousands of generations.

They are not gone, and do not cease to exist. They are alive here and now, only in a more subtle way. As we are alive in them...

They are fed by the water of our attention. When we feel emotion connected to them they are nourished. The bond between us and them deepens, and the strength of our whole ancestral line grows.

This is particularly the case with family members that have crossed over within 7 generations of our own birth.

So take a moment today, and honor anyone close to you that has passed, blood family or not. Your intent and your straightforward feelings are what matter most. The window of closeness ends at 3pm PST.

I like to speak to them as if they were right in front of me, and offer a little water.

Today I honor the memories of my great grandfather, Ernest Pett who was said to have eyes like mine and have been very kind. He was also the only person in family I know of that was as tall as me, and I have always felt close to him in spirit. He lived to be 101 I believe, and had a great vivacity of spirit to the end. He wrote and wonderful letter to me when I was born, which I still have. My only memory of him is at his 100th birthday in San Francisco.

My dear friend Shoichi, who ran a noodle shop in Kitakyushuu with his wife and had the warmest smile. He always made me feel so welcome and took very good care of a young expat in Japan. He made excellent coffee and had endless patience for my endless questions about Japanese food and culture. He died early from cancer, having been alive at the time of the atomic bomb in Nagasaki and living close to it. Sadly I lost the only photos of him I had when my camera and laptop were stolen from my car a few years back...

And my dear friend and client, Nouna Bakhiet, who I met on the slopes of Haleakalā on Maui. She was a scientist with a perpetual twinkle in her eye, even when very sick. She loved to eat well, and we shared many wonderful conversations about the deeper aspects of life. She was from Sudan and often mentioned her uncle who had been imprisoned in isolation for 7 years for political reasons, and had used the opportunity to meditate. I learned a great deal from her and was honored to be near her and care for her and her family towards the end of her life.

May all our ancestors be loved and Nourished 🙏🏼

My top 4 challenges for Vata-Kapha Season.

What’s Vata-Kapha season? In the Ayurvedic system, it falls from roughly late December to late February.

It's the settling into the most contracted part of the cold season 🥶

I invite you to give this an attentive read and to reflect 🤔

It's easy to be deflective about things that aren't urgent, and the long term cost of this oversight can be great.

When you take your well being seriously, in the long term you will reap the benefits many times over!

#1 - Holidays Hangover

With all the extra energy expenditure to shop for gifts, decorate, and celebrate it's easy to get overstimulated and burn out 😑

Look at nature in winter, things are quiet and calm.

You are a part of nature, not separate from it, and your body and nervous system crave a lot of quiet and calm.

#2 - Insufficient Deep Rest

Marathon movie sessions? Last minute shopping or gift wrapping? Late night parties? End of year deadlines at work?

Any or all of these things may have left you sleep deprived at a time of year when you need quality sleep the most 🥱

Beyond sleep, also take a good look at your energy and activity levels.

Are you taking enough quiet time during your waking hours and matching your output to your energy levels?

#3 - Treat Overload

Is there any month like December where so many tempting treats are so readily available? 🥧🍰🍬

I hope you celebrated good these holidays! It’s crucially important to celebrate all we have and are grateful for.

It’s easy to overdo it though, and your digestive system may be wanting a bit of a break.

#4 - Unprocessed / Stuck Emotions

The holidays are an emotional time. 😮‍💨

Things happen with family and loved ones, and old feelings get stirred up!

January is an excellent time to properly process and digest these feelings before they settle back into the depths.

From here, these unconscious feelings subtly (or not so subtly!) throw things off in your life…🤦🤦‍♀️

Stay tuned in the coming weeks! I'll be posting a bunch of great tips to effectively address these challenges in your life.

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year,

Gabriel

The Moon is waxing again...! Light is once again increasing in our collective emotional mind…

This is an excellent time to set intentions, and anchor your emotional orientation for the next two weeks. An appropriate scope would be ~ 2 weeks - culminating in the next full moon!

No need to rush though; this new moon occurred at 0° of sidereal cancer, and is very fresh… Ease into it, and consider taking it easy today to rest and relax. Tomorrow might be a better day to get your pen and paper out - here’s why:

The new moon occurs when celestially the Sun and the Moon occupy the same part of the sky. The cosmic energies of the Sun (the soul) and the moon (the mind) are aligned, creating a stillness and low point in the energies that are excellent for a reset.

Because this particular new moon happened at the very beginning of the sidereal sign of cancer, how these energies will unfold may not yet be clear. Think of it like the ending of an important cycle. Maybe you were working on an important project for two weeks and it’s finally done…

Better to take a day to rest and integrate before jumping on to the next thing, no?

Dinner!

Japanese style brown rice pasta with:

Carrots, gobo, Napa cabbage, kale, oyster mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms

Seasoned with ginger, green onion, dried shiitake, sake, shoyu, mirin, black pepper, and olive / sesame oil

Living in Japan I was surprised to discover how much they love pasta; they have all kinds of classic Japanese style pastas that are delicious!

This is a personal vegetarian recipe that I’ve come up with that has become a family favorite in our home… so much flavor.
