🐌 Slug Support offers early support to students navigating difficult situations, including issues with housing 🏡, food insecurity 🥘, finances 💵, and more. Their case managers work one-on-one with undergrad and graduate students to help remove the barriers that may be getting in the way of their well-being and success. Voting YES on Measure 88 will allow 65% of the money generated to help more students get out of difficult situations— the measure essentially works as a mutual aid fund for ALL students!

So help a fellow student out and yourself by voting YES on 88! 🗳️

Just last year, Redwood Free Market served almost 6,000 individual UCSC students. A significant portion of the student body relies on Redwood Free Market for free and fresh food 🍎🥬, and the Basic Needs Measure will expand our operations so that we can continue to serve all students. Get out and VOTE 🗳️ to support your fellow slugs’ access to basic needs resources!

Voting in the campus elections is open to all UCSC students and highly encouraged!

In case you’re still deciding whether to vote YES for MEASURE 88 ✅, here are some quick reasons!

➡️ Measure 88 is a $15.15 quarterly fee for undergrads and grads, essentially a MUTUAL AID FUND 🛟 that will support and increase ALL students’ access to BASIC NEEDS resources 🍎🏡

➡️ The majority of the revenue generated from the fee goes BACK TO STUDENTS 👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 facing a housing or food emergency as financial aid.

➡️ 27% of the money goes to supporting and expanding Basic Needs programs, including our existing pantries. This means more free food! 🥘 🥪In addition, CalFresh Outreach will also be strengthened so that more students can receive help on the EBT 💳 application process!

➡️ The rest of the money goes towards increasing the limit on meal swipes in the Swipes for Slugs Program. That way, students who rely on on-campus dining halls for food have a larger safety net if their Slug Points run out! 😅

Why do we need this fee, you ask? 🤔 More students than ever before are IN NEED of our services and as such, we require additional funding 💵 to help meet this demand 📈. Programs funded by Measure 88 will continue to be OPEN TO ALL, but will especially help those more likely to face basic needs insecurity. That’s why Measure 88 is endorsed by 14 university student organizations and we’re glad to have their support!!! 🫡

🗳️ Voting instructions as well as a QR code are provided above. Exercise your right to vote and support BASIC NEEDS MEASURE 88! 💙💛
