Supercomputing Lab for Undergraduates -SLUG at UCSC http://tasc.ucsc.edu/slug As high-performance computing becomes a routine tool, industry and government will seek graduates with expertise in this field.

SLUG is an internship program in High-Performance Computing and Communications that bridges expertise from astrophysics and the computational sciences. Students working on a computational astrophysics project with a UCSC faculty member in the Physics, AMS, Earth and Planetary Sciences or Astronomy Department are welcome to apply. The SLUG program goal is not to solely train scientists, but to utilize simulations as an exciting medium for imparting a broad array of scientific skills. The broad physics palette of simulations makes them an ideal training ground for many job situations. The senior undergraduates host a biweekly Undergraduate Astrophysics Journal Club during the academic year. It is our intent to cover a rich range of topics and share our strengths by processing materials in parallel.
