PUBLIC NOTICE : DEMOLITION for change in Downtown SANTA CRUZ - The Food Love MuraL - from our beloved Artist Team Leader ladder a letter to me on August 4, 2025 • the Ask is More Radical Acceptance / Non-Attachment to outcomes .

" Hi Sophia! It’s been a long time, I hope you’re doing good out there! .....I wanted to let you know I was contacted by the City of Santa Cruz ... they are making a huge change-up to downtown in the block where the Farmers Market is, putting a new library there with housing above it . Really, they’re changing and raising so many buildings right now it’s pretty jarring and somewhat sad to see Santa Cruz change so rapidly to a more modern looking place . And all these new buildings - I have the least interaction with them, don’t know people that live in them, don’t go there, they seem off limits to me so far . At least this new project will be for the Santa Cruz Public Library which will be a public space downtown .

Sadly, the Toadal Fitness Building (our mural wall) will come down as part of the development for the library, which will be the end of our Food Love MuraL . I was reached out to by the city . We’re being asked permission ... somewhat asap kind of thing as they intend to demolish the building soon .

Our mural lasted about ten years which is what I hope will be a minimum life span for my public work . Sad to see it go and all these new buildings & changes, but glad it got a lot of love with the farmers market for all these years .
