Banana Slugs!
From the energy of graduation celebrations across campus, we’re taking a moment to recognize one of our own.
Peyton, a Global Ambassador, spent the 2024–25 academic year at the University of Granada, immersing themselves in new cultures, perspectives, and experiences. Upon returning, Peyton brought that global insight back to UCSC - visiting classrooms, sharing stories, and inspiring fellow students to explore opportunities abroad.
Through their outreach and dedication, Peyton helped open doors for students across campus, showing that the world is truly within reach.
Ready to see what studying abroad can look like? Watch the video to learn more about Peyton’s journey and how you can start your own.

“ Hello! I’ve been studying abroad at Trinity College, Dublin, for the past year, and the experience has been nothing short of incredible! On campus, I’ve gotten involved in the Knitting Society, Circus Society, and The Phil (fun fact: the oldest student society in the world).
I’ve also had the opportunity to travel outside of Ireland, touring the EU institutions in Brussels with the Gilman Scholars Program, exploring the beautiful highlands of Scotland, and meeting Greta Thunberg, among other incredible international activists, at the Right Livelihood Award Ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden.
As a low-income student, I once thought studying abroad would be impossible, but thanks to the generosity of the UCEAP Shortes Scholarship, Gilman Scholarship, and Fund for Education Abroad, this year was made possible. The year isn’t over yet, and I still have much more in store.
Go raibh maith agat (Irish thank you) Global Learning!

🇫🇷🇫🇷 “Bonjour – as they say in France!
Thanks to UCSC Global Learning and UCEAP, I’ve been exploring the city of Paris and getting ready to continue my journey in London in just a few weeks. While in Paris, we’ve been diving into the history of art and experiencing cultures beyond the U.S.
Being here truly feels like a dream, and I’m so excited for everything still to come in the weeks ahead.”
📚 The UCEAP: Global Cities, Urban Realities program is action packed! Students experience life in London and Paris where they discover and learn about the cultures, social movements, and politics of both countries.
Students in program activities, such as guided tours to iconic sites and royal stomping grounds like Westminster Abbey and Castle of Chantilly.
