Santa Clarita Elementary School Board Study Session - Thursday, March 3, 2022

Hello!

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the school-based meetings regarding the AB 300 seismic needs for Santa Clarita Elementary School last week. While we know it created more questions than providing answers, we wanted to begin this discussion with the Santa Clarita community. During those meetings the parents and staff suggested that the Governing Board have a study session to share information, allow for parents and staff to have comment, and before beginning the process of determining next steps for the school. At its meeting this week the Board set Thursday, March 3, 2022 as the date for this study session.

The study session will begin at 6:30 pm from the District Office Board Room (24930 Avenue Stanford, Santa Clarita, CA 91355) to allow for people to attend in person and for the district to broadcast the meeting ensuring additional parent participation. This format will also allow us to record the meeting, including the Q & A / public comment portion, so we can be completely transparent with the information and process. The links for the digital access will be provided through Parent Square prior to the meeting.

Please understand that the district is aware that this is not an ideal time for beginning this process. SUSD wants to appropriately address the seismic needs of the school while not completely disrupting those that are currently attending the school. There are seismic needs for the campus, but the structural engineers have not recommended or required us to immediately remove people from the facility. We are required to plan for how we will address the school facility needs and we want to ensure that the children and staff have the best learning space possible.
