Santa Clara University Solar Decathlon 2013

It is with profound sadness that we share that Jim Reites, S.J. passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. He was one of the faculty advisors who helped bring this and two other Solar Decathlon houses to life.

He was an extraordinarily kind, warm hearted and selfless man who left a profound impact on the world. He lived an amazing life which we are all so lucky to be a small piece of.

His work on the Solar Decathlon was honored in an NBC story segment, “Bay Area Proud,” which chronicled his path to becoming a Jesuit and his lifelong twin loves of theology and science.

We would like to thank everyone that has made Radiant House possible and for the best college experience we could dream of. We did extremely well in the measured contests (the five we had control over). We placed first in Comfort Zone, Home Entertainment, and Energy Balance; second in Hot Water, and fourth in Appliances! Overall we placed 11th in the competition. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters, especially Santa Clara University and the Santa Clara University's School of Engineering as well as our parents, friends, and everyone that has been cheering for us! It has been an amazing past couple of years and one that none of us will forget.

We are in first place by 2 points! But tomorrow is a big day with two juried contests being announced. That will change everything! You can watch the live broadcast of the awards ceremony tomorrow starting at 10:00am PDT. Also the competition is open to the public starting at 11:00am tomorrow!

We have a ton of updates to share with all of you! Right now about 20% of the competition scores have been announced and we are currently in second place! On Sunday morning we had a live interview with NBC Bay Area and took the public on a tour of . We also launched our Public Relations App over the weekend where you can learn all about the house and the competition, and yes it is cross platform iOS and Android! We have had juries come through over the past few days and the awards for those contests will be announced starting on Thursday!
