Founded in 1911. At SCU, we are “engineering with a mission”—a mission to serve our students, our valley, and our world.

The mission of Santa Clara University's School of Engineering is to prepare our students for professional excellence, responsible citizenship, and service to society. Our mix of rigorous academics, project-based learning, and values-based education nurtures students of competence, conscience and compassion into the leaders of tomorrow--leaders who are well-equipped to face the engineering and ethical challenges of the future.

As we prepare to celebrate Commencement tomorrow, we're reflecting on some of the meaningful traditions that mark the transition from student to professional engineer. 🎓⚙️

Last week, members of the Santa Clara University engineering community participated in the Order of the Engineer ceremony, accepting the Obligation of an Engineer and receiving the Engineer's Ring, a symbol of their commitment to integrity, responsibility, and ethical practice.

The ceremony serves as a reminder that engineering is about more than technical expertise. It is a profession grounded in service, accountability, and a responsibility to use knowledge for the benefit of society.

🎉 Congratulations to all who participated in this year's ceremony. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates and the entire School of Engineering community during Commencement weekend.

Mechanical engineering student earns prestigious 2026 SMART Scholarship 05/24/2026

📢 Senior Design Spotlight 🎓

After more than a decade, Santa Clara University returned to the ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition—and this year’s Senior Design team delivered an incredible comeback.
With little institutional memory, this five-student team designed and built a concrete canoe from the ground up, developing a custom mix to balance strength, durability, and buoyancy. From fabrication to technical presentations, they tackled every aspect of the competition—including the critical flotation test, which they passed with confidence.

Competing against larger, more experienced programs, the team earned 3rd place in Men’s Double Slalom and Technical Presentation, along with the Spirit of the Competition Award 🏆

Congratulations to the ASCE Concrete Canoe team, and we can't wait to see your presentation this Friday!

📢 Senior Design Project Spotlight 🎓

As Senior Design Conference 2026 approaches, we’re proud to highlight the work of Ayden Dauenhauer, Viet Ha, and Harry Ying. Their smart walker system leverages onboard cameras and embedded computing to capture and analyze gait data, including step length, cadence, stride symmetry, and walking speed.

The goal is to provide clinicians with a practical, data-driven tool for evaluating mobility and tracking patient progress over time.

This interdisciplinary project reflects collaboration between Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering students, led by Maria Kyrarini.

Join us at the Senior Design Conference to explore this project and more from our graduating engineers:
