Compassionate Action is a core component of our scholarship program. đź’ś MBB Scholars commit to volunteering in their communities, putting their leadership into practice through service.

Whether tutoring younger students, assisting elderly neighbors with laundry or cooking, or volunteering at orphanages and clinics, these are just a few of the many ways Scholars give back.

More than 1,000 girls attend the only all-girl primary school in South Sudan. When they are sick or injured, Nurses Moriku and Sophie are there to care for them.

Moriku is also a graduate of MBB’s scholarship program. MBB supported her through nursing school, and today she uses her education to care for girls at the school.

Moriku and Sophie provide daily care, lead regular health education workshops, and help students learn how to care for their bodies. MBB also provides the medicines and supplies they need to help girls recover and return to class.

If you happen to sit next to Chris White on a plane, there’s a good chance you’ll become a Mercy Beyond Borders ambassador before your final descent!

Chris has visited MBB programs in Haiti, Uganda, and South Sudan, and champions our mission everywhere he goes. He recently completed nine years on MBB’s Board, including service as Board Chair, and has welcomed countless friends, relatives, and colleagues into the MBB family.

We are proud to recognize Chris as our 2026 Volunteer of the Year and celebrate the leadership, wisdom, and generous spirit he continues to share with MBB.

As violence and instability disrupt schools and daily life across Haiti, staying connected matters.

MBB currently supports 120 young women in Haiti enrolled in high schools and universities. During life skills workshops, Scholars strengthen practical skills in communication, decision making, and leadership. They also exchange advice, talk through challenges, and form friendships with peers.

In times of such uncertainty, this peer network is an important part of helping Scholars navigate school and prepare for what comes next.

MBB donors supported Veronicah’s education throughout high school and university. She recently graduated from a university in Kenya with a degree in disaster management, an extraordinary milestone for a young woman whose parents never completed primary school.

Now back home in South Sudan, Veronicah is using her education and her own experience, including surviving an attempted forced marriage, to help create change. Here, she speaks with parents and children about the importance of enrolling girls in school.

From student to graduate to advocate, Veronicah shows how one girl’s education can open doors for many more. 💙

Sherron & Lou began supporting some of today’s MBB university graduates when those young women were still in primary school. Year after year, they have supported our Scholars throughout their educational journeys.

Nyuma Mary, a South Sudanese refugee and MBB high school Scholar in Uganda, receives a hygiene kit from Sarah Joan, one of her “older MBB sisters”.

Following a health and hygiene discussion, Mary and her fellow Scholars can now put what they learned into practice. That’s the power of the MBB sisterhood: alumnae returning to guide and support the girls coming behind them. 💙
