First off I want to say thank you to all of our opponents that showed up last night and that continues to produce world class events. Their professionalism and the care they extend to the fighters stands out! We had no easy fights last night, our opponents showed up and gave all of our guys a helluva fight!
First we had up. Little story about this fight, his opponent had some “unforeseen incident happen in his camp” he sent a message to the promoter less than an hr before weigh ins pulling out 😡 the promoter was able to find an opponent in less than an hr and ye was matched up with a kickboxer from japan. Ye fought well. His heart shined bright in all 3 rds but just couldn’t pull it off. I wanted to see Ye taste victory so bad. With a little more time I can see Ye being a dominant fighter between 135-140. Keep working Ye, you are so close!
Next we had up. His opponent was 3-0 and showed up with his A game! Jorge of the jungle grinded out a decision! His ability to do damage in the clinch is so fun to watch! He landed some heavy knees and elbows, his opponent kept coming! It was a very entertaining fight!
The last fight of the night was Kevin! After watching the warm up area fill up and then empty out Kevin was finally up. His opponent was coming of a dominant victory and was a very strong and skilled opponent. It was a grind but Kevin was winning every rd, in the third Kevin landed a brutal elbow that opened up a bad gash above the left eye. Kevin’s elbows are so heavy that even with an elbow pad he was able to hand out one of the worst cuts ever seen in an amateur bout. That kid was tough he kept fighting thru however the reffed stopped it in the 3rd. Kevin’s opponent was good, I definitely look forward to seeing him fight more!
At the end of the day it’s not about winning, it’s about being a better version than you were before. All these guys leveled up after yesterday for sure! It was amazing to see all of our teamates show up and be a part of this! I look forward to seeing some of you step in the ring at some point. Thank you, we continue to grind and continue to grow together!

After Jorge’s last fight I told him to tune out all the noise and to follow his heart! For this fight I watched Jorge approach this one completely different. He always came in and worked hard however this time around he took a deep hard look at himself. Any time we are forced to reflect on our own actions growth occurs. I watched him spend extra time on things he wasn’t understanding rather then the I already know this I’m good. He found the areas that he struggled with and he faced those demons head on. I watched him become the fighter we all knew he was capable of. Before the fight I could see a different athlete then the any other Jorge we have seen. Jorge stepped into that ring with all of those demons in check and fought a fight that he was in control of! Again I’m not about the wins or losses but personal growth and representing Muay Thai properly! we are all proud of you, good job, mission completed!
Also want to thank all of our teammates that made the trip to root Jorge in and to represent PMTSB and the PMT family! thank you for putting on a professional stage and giving these athletes a stage to dance on! Thank you to our opponent and their team for giving us a well trained opponent. I really hope to see him back on the stage soon! He is a classy guy, much respect!

If I had to choose 1 word to explain how I feel about amateur debut I would say proud! We didn’t get the result we trained for but in this sport there is so much more going on other than wins and losses and this is what I mean. Since day 1 Ye has committed himself to this sport. Ye would come in during the kids classes and sit off to the side and watch what the kids classes were learning. After I would get done demonstrating a technique to the kids I would look over and see ye training the exact thing on the heavy bag. Early on I noticed how easy it was to coach him. He didn’t always get what I showed right away but he always kept working until he did understand it. He didn’t grow up an athlete and was told he wasn’t meant to play sports, his purpose was academics. His coordination was probably one of the worst I’ve ever seen on a day 1 beginner. With the work he put in and the way he was coachable I knew it would be only a matter of time until he started to pick this up. I remember one time during shadow boxing ye was flailing everywhere, arms legs all over the place but he was really trying, putting effort into shadow boxing, not lazy kill time shadowboxing. I turned to somebody and I told them watch Ye is going to get good, they looked at me with an odd look and nodded their head, they probably thought damn coach is going crazy! I knew if he stuck around and was able to be coachable like he has it would only be a matter of time! Not to mention he has been doing all of this while taking a full load at UCSB and excelling in his courses. So ya PROUD is the one word I would use to recap his debut!

Thank you so much to our opponents, his opponent was a tough fighter. I didn’t want Ye to just have an easy fight, I wanted him to be able to test himself against a skilled fighter. Thank you to you and your team for giving us that! Thank you to Cali Muay Thai for giving these athletes a state to find themselves! Thank you to all of our coaches and teammates. You all continue to show up for each other in the gym and at the fight! Thank you, none of this is possible without the team! Ye said he wants to fight as soon as possible and he can’t wait to get back
