And finally, introducing our President: Gurtej Singh Bhandal!

“Hey everyone I’m Gurtej! I am a 4th year Biology major and I’ve been on the SSA board for all of my time here at UCSB. Through SSA, not only have I gotten the opportunity to further my understanding of Sikhi, but I’ve also found a supportive community and family that I can count on for support during these hectic quarters. Over the course of my time here, SSA has made significant impact in my undergraduate experience, and as president for the 2022-2023 academic year, I hope I can contribute to making that same impact for our new and familiar members.”

Introducing the Head of our Gurbani Studies Chair: Sanjot Singh Bains!

In the short time I’ve been blessed enough to take part in SSA, I’ve had the immense pleasure of keeping sangat with the many and varied members of our beloved organization, and it is this very sangat that has been my greatest takeaway from my time with SSA.
Panjven Guru Arjan Dev Ji wrote, “ਮਿਲਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ।।,” meaning, “I’ve come into the company of saints and I have been uplifted,” and this company has truly uplifted me.
As Gurbani Studies Co-Chair, I hope to contribute knowledge and material that will provide a platform and basis for the essential discussions and topics surrounding our sangat. This includes lessons and discussions covering reading and writing Gurmukhi Akhar, Gurbani Santhiya and Viakhya, and Sikh Ithihaas.
I want nothing more than to give to the members of the UCSB SSA what they have given me.
