Providing a natural and rich learning environment, Building community, friendships and celebrating our world together. TLC Child Care-The Outdoor Classroom
To the uninformed eye, TLC may look like nothing more than children playing outside, as children always have. But play in our Outdoor Classroom means something much deeper, it is a return to a very old thing: child-centered learning. TLC embrac
es outdoor, child-initiated play as critical to children's well-being. Young learners can immerse themselves in nature, hone observation skills, practice persistence and cooperation, develop academic concepts and physical skills and learn problem solving skills and, of course—play and have fun. The children learn by supporting their physical, social and emotional growth, as well as growth across the curriculum: math, science, language and literacy, social studies, art, music and drama. TLC is here to be responsive to your child’s needs to foster a positive sense of self, sense of security and well being. TLC plays a significant role in your child’s life, providing a safe haven and an emotional ground guiding them to build those first long term relationships. Keeping in mind the consistency in plenty of hugs and cuddles throughout the day and provide tender love and care, so all children can feel home…away from home. The Outdoor Classroom Project believes that almost every activity that can be incorporated indoors can be done outdoors:
* Flexible – with a mix of equipment targeting different developmental benefits
* Connected to nature – to allow children to actively engage with their natural environment.
* Versatile – with a variety of spaces or ‘zones’ to enable children to engage as individuals
* Weather-proof – with covered areas and shade structures to provide shelter from sun and rain and water bubblers for hydration.
* Landscaped – incorporating gardens, herb and vegetable gardens, or native plants and trees for shade.
* Eco-friendly – incorporating sustainably-sourced materials, reused or repurposed materials.
