Qigong Practice With Dr. Jahnke – for Health Resiliency and Healing

Are you looking for a powerful way to calm down, de-stress, and literally "turn on the medicine within" you?

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in worrying about the past or stressing over the future. But true healing happens right here, in the present moment.

In today's practice, we are aligning between heaven and earth by unlocking the Three Treasures:

1️⃣ Posture: Sinking into the knees, lengthening the spine, dropping the shoulders, and softening the fingers.
2️⃣ Breath: Taking deep, long, sustained breaths to gather healing resources from the nature around us.
3️⃣ Mind: Purposefully choosing present-moment focus. When a distracting thought pops up, notice it, and gently choose not to follow it.

Try this simple transition next time you feel overwhelmed: Bring your hands to shoulder level, breathe in fully, and get the feeling of rising up—almost like taking flight. Then, exhale, sink down, and let yourself drift in that calm energy.

Ready to experience the shift? Follow along with Dr. Roger Jahnke for this restorative practice. Click the video below to breathe, move, and turn on the medicine within you today: https://youtu.be/UDHoXXRMINI

The Connection Between Your Emotions and Body Chemistry

Traditional Chinese Medicine has long recognized that our emotions directly influence the body's physical functions. Have you ever felt sadness, anger, or stress and noticed physical symptoms appear in your body? For example, anger has often been associated with increased blood pressure and tension throughout the body.

Today, Western science is increasingly exploring the powerful connection between thoughts, emotions, and physical health through Positive Psychology and Mind-Body Medicine. Mental and emotional states can either support wellness or contribute to imbalance and disease. Caring for your emotional well-being is also a way of caring for your physical health.

In his book, "The Healer Within," Dr. Roger Jahnke explains how emotional states can affect body chemistry and healing:

"It has also been clearly established that sustained joy, contentment, and security cause a shift in the body chemistry to produce healing elixirs. In a classic study, scientists at the Clinical Neuroendocrinological Laboratory at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C., found that patients with depression are in a state of chronic low-grade anxiety, secreting high quantities of the body chemicals associated with stress.

In a collaborative study at Stanford and Emory Universities, researchers found that depressed individuals sustained high levels of stress hormones in their blood. They showed depleted energy reserves and suppressed immune function. The self-healing methods turn on the inner medicines that can neutralize negative emotional influences.

When support and social interaction help to trigger the positive influences of laughter, communication, and sharing, health improves. When hate is transformed by joy, the heart is healed. When worry is transformed by calm, the immune function is boosted. Notice that moving the body, deepening the breath, and doing a little self-massage can also shift your mood."

How we manage our internal state doesn't just dictate our health—it defines how we lead, communicate, and show up for others. True leadership begins from within, by mastering the energy and chemistry of our own minds and bodies.

If you are ready to move from understanding this connection to actively mastering it, we invite you to take the next step.

Join author and master Qigong teacher Dr. Roger Jahnke on June 21–26, 2026 in Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Massachusetts for a transformative, immersive retreat: Qigong Empowerment: The 10 Phases of Cultivating and Mastering Qi.

From Combat to Calm: How the VA is Helping Veterans Reclaim Their Health Through Tai Chi and Qigong

Increasingly, Veterans across the country are turning to Tai Chi and Qigong — ancient mind-body practices that combine gentle movement, breathing, and focused awareness — to support both physical and emotional well-being.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs now recognizes Tai Chi and Qigong as part of its Whole Health approach to care, reflecting growing scientific interest in how these practices may help improve quality of life.

Research reviewed by the VA has linked Tai Chi and Qigong to benefits in areas such as chronic pain, balance, mobility, sleep quality, blood pressure, heart health, and stress reduction.

For Veterans living with physical strain, recovery challenges, or the lingering effects of long-term stress, these slow and intentional movement practices can offer something many people struggle to find in modern life: calm.

Unlike intense fitness programs, Tai Chi and Qigong emphasize awareness over performance. Movements are performed slowly and mindfully, often coordinated with deep breathing and relaxation techniques.

Studies reviewed by the VA found promising evidence that these practices may help reduce falls in older adults, improve pain related to chronic low back issues, and support better sleep and overall well-being.

Many participants also describe feeling more grounded, centered, and mentally clear after regular practice.

As interest in holistic and non-drug approaches to health continues to grow, Tai Chi and Qigong are becoming powerful examples of how movement, breath, and mindfulness can work together to support healing.

For Veterans searching for gentle but meaningful ways to care for both body and mind, these ancient practices may offer more than exercise — they may offer restoration.
