🧭 “You are never lost when you can see the stars, or carry a compass in your pocket.” — Unknown
Did you know?
🧭 The first compasses were invented in China over 2,000 years ago!
🌍 Explorers, sailors, and mapmakers used them to navigate long before GPS.
🧒 A compass can teach kids about direction, geography, and even patience!
👨👩👧👦 Parent Tip: Try a simple backyard adventure—give your child a compass and let them lead you “10 steps north” or “5 steps east.” It builds confidence and introduces map skills in a fun way.

Let Kids Take The Lead! Have you explored a Crawler’s Corner? If you are in Santa Barbara, I highly encourage it! But if you are not here, there is still so much to explore by remembering to let children take the lead! As I always say, “Exploration is curiosity in action” and MOXI is a museum dedicated to a similar concept of “Science in action” which is also a reminder that we can take this mindset with us wherever we go!

🥜 Did you know peanut noodles are popular all over the world—from China to Thailand to kitchens like mine? And they’re so fun to make with kids! Especially when you top them with cool, crunchy cucumber. 🥒
Today, I was exploring how different flavors—nutty, salty, sweet, tangy—can all come together in one tasty bowl!
⸻
Exploration Notes:
🌏 Cold peanut noodles are inspired by dishes like Chinese liang mian and Thai satay noodles.
🥒 Cucumbers aren’t just crunchy—they help keep your body cool in warm weather.
🎨 You can mix in colorful veggies like carrots, red cabbage, or bell peppers to make your noodles extra bright!
⸻
👨👩👧👦 Parent Tip: Let your child whisk the sauce (peanut butter, soy sauce, a little honey or vinegar) or toss the noodles with tongs. Let them taste and tell you what flavors they notice—it’s a fun way to build food vocabulary and confidence.

The oldest mug ever found is 3,000+ years old? Mugs have been part of human history for centuries—used for storytelling, warmth, and connection.
Whether it’s filled with coffee, tea, or cocoa… a favorite mug can be a tiny reminder to slow down, share a moment, or start a conversation.
☕ Do any of the mugs in your house have a little story? A gift? A trip? A quote? A yard sale? What’s your favorite mug, and what story does it tell?
⸻
Exploration Notes:
📜 The earliest mugs were carved from bone and wood—long before ceramics!
🌍 Ancient Greeks and Romans made mugs out of clay and metal.
🎨 A mug can reflect your personality or spark joy with its design, shape, or color.
⸻
👨👩👧👦 Parent Tip: Invite your kids to pick a “special mug” for tea time, hot cocoa, or even a fun morning routine. It helps build rituals that connect feelings of comfort with shared time together.

🧐 Did you know celery was once used as a bouquet, not a snack? In ancient Greece, it was even woven into crowns for winners of athletic games—just like olive branches!
Today, I was exploring celery in the kitchen. It’s crunchy, green, and full of history and health benefits!
⸻
Exploration Notes:
🥬 Celery has been grown for over 3,000 years and was first used as medicine before becoming food.
💧 It’s made of 95% water—no wonder it’s such a refreshing snack!
🧠 Crunching celery helps strengthen jaw muscles and improves focus—great for little learners!
⸻
👨👩👧👦 Parent Tip: Try a celery taste test with your kids—plain, with cream cheese, or peanut butter and raisins (“ants on a log”). You can even dip it in hummus or yogurt! Invite them to listen to the crunch as they chew—it turns snack time into a sensory moment.
