Introducing the 2025 Santa Barbara Bowl Performing Arts Teacher of the Year Rich Lashua, performing arts/theatre teacher at Santa Barbara Junior High School 🎭

Nominators shared that Lashua “brings teaching to life” and that he “exemplifies the true essence of arts education which, for Lashua, is about the process and the meaningful impacts that process brings to students.”

Each year, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Bowl, the Santa Barbara County Education Office recognizes an excellent instructional leader who effectively inspires the creativity of students and is an excellent voice in representing the importance of performing arts for students in public education with the honor of Santa Barbara Bowl Performing Arts Teacher of the Year.

8th Grade Parents - We Need Baby Pictures for the Yearbook!

Our SBJH Science Olympiad Team placed 2nd in Regionals at UCSB this past Saturday. Team members competed in a total of 22 events, involving knowledge based science topics, lab tests and engineering builds, placing in 14 of them. Please congratulate our team of Amelia Dysart, Lauren Faletti, Tara Ghahremani, Stella Heaton, Clara Hollerer, Laine Howell, Ezra Manriquez, Aurora Sanchez, Alice Sweeney, Liam Walsh and Mrs. Garza for all their hard work and a successful season!

ALL SBJH 8th graders attended a field trip to the Botanic Gardens this week! A huge thank you to our 8th grade science teachers, Ms. Ross and Ms. Garza, for organizing!

Night 2 of the SBIFF - Last night, Zoe N and Zoe McK attended the outstanding performer of the year, Bradley Cooper event presented by Cary Mulligan and Brad Pit.
When they asked Cooper what his favorite character he has played, he said, “Rocky the raccoon From guardians of the galaxy.”
