Why should you shoot the Milky Way in Borrego Springs this weekend?
🌌 The Milky Way's core is not visible year-round. Due to the Earth's orbit, the Galactic Center is only visible in the North Hemisphere late-Spring through early-Fall. Right now we are entering "prime" Milky Way season.
🌌 The lunar cycle rules our schedule! Even a minimal amount of light from the moon can create enough atmospheric glare that washes out our view of the stars.
🌌 Borrego Springs located in San Diego county is one of the only 65 certified International Dark Sky Communities globally. There are strict lighting ordinances allowing us to shoot in total darkness but be within a close distance of our hotel and amenities.
🌌Borrego Springs is also home to the Galleta Meadows Sculptures. Over 100 metal sculptures throughout the desert make for the perfect subject in the foreground of our astrophotography.

Not sure why your photos turn out too dark, too bright, or too blurry? Mastering photography is about mastering the EXPOSURE TRIANGLE. There are 3 settings working together to produce your final exposure:
📸 SHUTTER SPEED (Time): This is how long your camera is 'open' and exposed to light. Faster shutter speeds are used to freeze motion such as race cars. Slower shutter speeds capture more movement and also captures more light. If you want your subject to be frozen and sharp use faster shutter speeds.
📸 APERTURE (Lens): Measured in f-stops this is how wide your lens will open. A wider opening has a more shallow depth of field (blurry background) and captures more light. A more narrow opening allows more in focus but captures less light.
📸 ISO (Sensitivity): This allows us to control how sensitive the sensor will be to light. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive to light, but also adds more grain into images. Lower ISO is cleaner with less grain, but captures less light.
📸 These three elements work together to create your exposure. It is a balancing act between these three settings with pros and cons of each. If you change one side of the triangle, you must balance with the other two sides to keep you image from being too dark or too bright.
