The Wooden Floor We inspire and transform the lives of youth through the power of dance & access to higher education.

Founded in 1983, The Wooden Floor is one of the foremost creative youth development nonprofit organizations in the country. We transform the lives of young people in low-income communities through the power of dance and access to higher education. In Orange County and through our national licensed partners, we use a long-term approach grounded in exploratory dance education to foster the confidence and gifts within each child to innovate, communicate, and collaborate – skills necessary for success in school and in life. 100 percent of students who graduate from The Wooden Floor immediately enroll in higher education. Our students become change agents and beacons of hope within their own families, their neighborhoods, our community, and our world.

At The Wooden Floor, dance is more than movement. We use dance as a vehicle for empowerment and change, helping young people develop The Wooden Floor 6Cs©: Creativity, Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Character, and Courage. These are skills that prepare students for higher education, as future career professionals and leaders of tomorrow.

Curiosity came to life this summer as five of our high school students spent two weeks at UC Irvine's Brain Camp, exploring neuroscience through hands-on labs, experiments, and workshops alongside UCI faculty and students.

We’re incredibly grateful to share that The Wooden Floor has been generously awarded a Breakaway Fund grant from the Samueli Foundation to help modernize our Hutton Education Center through facility improvements, new construction, and enhanced technology. This investment will create even greater opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.

We’re deeply thankful for the Samueli Foundation’s continued partnership and support of our mission, not only through this grant, but also as a Lead Class Partner and, through the Anaheim Ducks Foundation and our annual Anaheim Ducks Holiday Shopping Spree with the players, team members and our students.
