"Pilots and Pints" For more than five years, Sunrise pilots, CFIs, and friends have gathered at 6 PM on the second Wednesday of every month to relax, laugh, and share flight experiences with other like-minded folks. The meeting venue has been from the start The Classic Q, a Newport bar and restaurant, a firm friend of Sunrise. We took a break for the summer of 2025 as we got used to the idea that Sunrise had closed its doors, but our hosts Kyle Beatty and Michael Church kicked things off again last night. We invite all SoCal pilots to come by to relax and share. If it looks like fun, if you would enjoy a gathering of new and old friends, come on by!

In early August two friends, Kyle Beatty and Yan Gendlin, organized a party to gather friends of Sunrise together as we formally closed the company doors for the last time. The result exceeded everybody’s expectation: more than a hundred showed up. Lots of memories, laughs, and a few tears. THANKS FOR COMING!! It meant a lot to Lyn and me.
The occasion also gave Ty Frisby and me an opportunity to announce our upcoming creation of a Youtube channel entitled Flight Talk. Our goal is support of General Aviation flight training, support sorely needed in today's shifting aviation culture. As a sidenote, one of the guests told Barb that he had access to a recording studio. We failed to mark who this was, and I would very much like to talk to anybody who has access to a suitable studio.

Josh Davies used to fly KC 135s (B-707) in the USAF. He is currently rediscovering the pleasure of smaller aircraft, teaching at Sunrise. He just completed primary aerobatic training.

Tyler Wilber just earned his Commercial pilot certificate! His CFI was Michael Church. He has now started CFI training.
