The Center for Human Right's summer program just finished in Strasbourg, France—the seat of the European Court of Human Rights, the Council of Europe, and the European Parliament, as well as a lively hub of French art, culture, and cuisine. Students had the opportunity to examine contemporary issues in international human rights law, humanitarian law, and criminal law, supplemented with discussion of those issues from a Christian perspective with Trinity professors Andrew DeLoach and Stephen Kennedy as well as guest speakers, including lawyers, advocates, and academics.

Trinity Law School was honored to host Israeli-American attorney, author, and Fellow with the Georgetown University Center for the Constitution in Washington D.C., Yonatan Green. Green gave a lecture on his recently published book Rogue Justice on the Israeli legal system, in which he recounts the Court's ascent from a modest judicial institution to the central arbiter of Israel's political and social disputes. Revealing how judicial supremacy came to dominate Israeli governance, and discussed how Israel's constitutional crisis sits within broader global debates of pressing concern for scholars, practitioners and policymakers alike.

After his lecture, Green was joined by Professor Andrew DeLoach, Director of the Center for Human Rights at Trinity Law School, for a conversation and audience questions.

The Center for Human Rights Study Abroad program just finished their first week in The Hague, Netherlands! Students met with Professors DeLoach and Kennedy to discuss the definition of human rights and how they are applied internationally. Then they visited the International Court of Justice or "Peace Palace" and International Criminal Court to meet with local attorneys working in The Hague and witness how these rights are being applied in the real world.

Almost two years ago, the Trinity community lost our dear colleague and friend, Professor Craig Hawkins. Professor Hawkins taught at Trinity for many years, and was a regular fixture of academic life both on and off campus. His courses included Jurisprudence, Legal Institutions and Values, Human Rights, and many others. In particular, he created and taught our course on the prevention of human trafficking in Cambodia.

He was also involved in numerous ministries, including founder of the Apologetics Information Ministry, and host of many radio programs focused on apologetics, biblical teaching, and faith & culture.

His work—and more so, his faith, lived out loud for all to witness—has fundamentally shaped this school, and hundreds of students along the way. It is with deepest gratitude and honor that the Board of Regents of Trinity International University awards Professor Hawkins the Degree of Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa.

The Center for Public Legal Theology officially launches its website!

The Center’s mission integrates theology and law to advance human flourishing within the principles of ordered liberty.

Led by Professor Ventrella, this new website will promote scholarship, training, and engagement to ground legal initiatives, advocacy, and policy in foundational theological principles.

Each month, the website features an essay that probes, and perhaps provokes, conversations that apply timeless theological truths to contemporary legal and cultural matters all from a public legal theological perspective.
