A singer learns more than singing. An instrumentalist learns more than playing.
They learn to be musicians.
That’s why collaboration is such an important part of what we do.
As a department, we looked at the 24 Italian Art Songs and asked how we could use the same repertoire to create meaningful learning opportunities for all of our students.
In just a week—and with only a couple of individual coachings—our singers have been learning how to shape a phrase, communicate with a conductor, make choices about rhythm and expression, and trust their artistic instincts. Through Mr. Hernandez’s orchestral arrangements, our instrumental students become part of that same learning experience.
This is bigger than a performance.
It’s about giving students opportunities to listen, collaborate, communicate, and grow together.
Because whatever they play—or however they sing—they’re all musicians. 🎼
