And this summer, Destiny will take her leadership to the national stage, representing Cristo Rey Orange County in Washington D.C. as part of the Next Gen Leadership Program. 🇺🇸

Choosing this year’s recipient was no easy task. We are incredibly blessed to have so many dedicated partners across Orange County who invest in our students and our mission every single day. That in itself is something worth celebrating.

They are a proud Corporate Work Study Partner, a valued member of our Board, and a champion of our students in ways that go far beyond the workplace. From opening their doors for student campus tours of their new cancer specialty center, to allowing students access to the Thoracic Oncology Mobile Experience, to visiting our teachers as part of our professional development programming, they show up for us — again and again. 

They are not just a partner. They are a pillar of our community.

Last Friday, we celebrated the incredible achievements of our Cristo Rey students at our Annual End of Year Awards Ceremony — and the energy in that room was something special. 🎉

We are proud to introduce our Student Associate of the Month for May — Sebastian! 🌟

Sebastian is a 9th grade student at Cristo Rey currently working with Irvine Ranch Water District as part of our Corporate Work Study program. Through this program, students are placed in a professional job one day per week, all four years of high school — gaining real-world experience and exposure to career options while earning a significant portion of the cost of their education.

Here is what his supervisor, Natalie Palacios, Water Resource Specialist had to say:

“Sebastian has been a tremendous help to our department during his time here,” said Natalie.  “Sebastian has been a pleasure to work with–his can-do attitude and flexibility in managing tasks is deeply appreciated.”

Celebrating our May Students of the Month! 

We’re proud to recognize freshmen Penelope and Daniel; sophomores Jamie and Jesus; and juniors Arlette and Edgar, for their outstanding academic achievement and commitment to living out our Cristo Rey values. 

These exceptional CROCS are shining examples of excellence and integrity for our entire community! 🐊✨

Earlier this month, freshmen were given the opportunity to learn and see the Thoracic Oncology Mobile Experience .

Students met doctors and healthcare experts, stepped inside a mobile surgical lab, tried hands-on activities with advanced medical robots, watched live demonstrations learning directly from doctors and clinicians, and most importantly learned why finding cancer early, teamwork, and new technology can save lives. Thank you City of Hope Orange County for giving our students access to these spaces. Students can’t be what they don’t see. 

Through Corporate Work Study, our students work one day a week for a corporate partner — gaining real-world experience, exploring career options, and earning a significant portion of the cost of their Cristo Rey education. These companies aren’t just investing in our students — they are investing in Orange County’s future workforce.

“It has been great seeing David grow and become more independent. Any work we give him he can usually figure it out and creates his own method of getting it done–especially with more technical work like data entry and organization. I’m so happy to have David back a third year! Great watching him grow as a student as well as a person.”

“Vannessa has been a tremendous asset to the Delhi Center. She demonstrates professionalism, hard work, and innovative ideas in her role. It is a privilege to witness Vannessa’s sense of responsibility and pride in her work, as well as her strong connection to the community.”
