At the beginning of my career, I never planned to learn long hairstyling.
I thought it wasn’t for me.

Then one day, a client sat in my chair and said:
“Joaquin, you’re doing my hair for my wedding.”

I didn’t know how to say no.
She looked at me and said, “You have three months to practice.”

That moment changed my life.

Three months of nonstop practice.
Learning from some of the best educators.
Pushing past fear and doubt.

That decision opened doors I never imagined—
bridal shows, fashion runways, magazine catalogs, hair stage shows, and even working at Miss Mexico events. I share this humbly and with gratitude.

Today, we train new hairstylists in hairstyling.

The disappearance of hair shows.

The real reason hair shows are disappearing is due to several factors.

First, hair product companies are no longer interested in heavily investing in education, educators, or shows, since they can already sell what they want online.

On the other hand, hairstylists believe they can "learn everything on the internet." easier and faster ,,, even if THAT IS NOT THE FORMULA TO MASTER ANY DISCIPLINE.

My first high-level show was in New York in 1985, and it was incredible to see major product brands competing to present the best new collections.

Stylists participated in international competitions, and offered private classes—sometimes with the biggest icons in the industry.

Sadly, that world is nearly gone.

That’s why I’m thrilled to see JAZ Beauty Supply hosting their own show, giving stylists the chance to participate in this event.

I congratulate my students for wanting to take part in this show, learning, and experiencing something truly unique.

In 1986, I made my way to New York to witness the iconic New York International Hairshow at the Jacob Javits Center.

What an unforgettable experience! The energy was amazing , with hairstylists from every corner of the globe showcasing their cutting-edge collections and revolutionary ideas.

Working with incredible beautiful models.

One standout moment?
The phenomenal presentation by ABBA, led by none other than Alan Benfield Bush, a legend in the industry.

Fast forward 40 years, and life has come full circle.

Here we are, about to host an exclusive Facebook interview with Mr. Bush himself!

Argentina: Martin Carrizo, a hairdresser who has worked on runways and served as a celebrity image consultant; as a businessman, he surpasses his goals and is a role model to follow.

Víctor Montalvo, mentor of the most important beauty brand in Latin America, a motivational speaker and entrepreneur, creator of training programs in the beauty industry.

Prof. Martin Vidal established a strong educational foundation for the hairdressing sector in the region. With a chain of hair salons, he is one of the undisputed leaders in the industry.

I'M NOT YOUR BABYSITTER...

Here is my best technique to make my students to became great students !!!.

You may not like my teaching method, but it has worked for me for over 20 years.🙂

When I worked as an educator for Toni & Guy in California, I often felt frustrated when students didn’t do their work.

My teacher and mentor was James Morrison, at that time he was The International Director of Education for Toni & Guy, and he told me, "Joaquin, don’t stress over students who aren’t interested. If they don’t care now, they never will, and you’ll only harm yourself with frustration."

For over 25 years, I’ve started every class and program , having one/one meeting with my students and explain three key points with high respect for them .

1,- As your teacher, I’ll give you 100% of my heart and my knowledge (but remember, 75% of the work is on you to practice and study, not on me ).

2,- I don’t have rules in my class; I have expectations. Let’s meet them together at the highest level.

3,- I'M NOT YOUR BABYSITTER. If you don’t care about your career , I will meet you at the same level, then I don't care either.

Why this approach has led to 100% success ?

It shocks students when you talk like that but the most important it places the 100% responsibility on them.

I know I will do my 100% no question about that. I will be there on time and ready to guide them and teach them .

My students know I’m always there for them, 24/7 , they can call me or send me a video at any time or any day but they also know their success is in their hands.

Motivation dies, but NO DISCIPLINE. so
I focus on discipline, knowing that motivation will follow ,but discipline YOU MUST DO IT , NO OPTION .

My best advice: practice 10,000 times.( I'm serious about that)

Thanks to this philosophy, we’ve achieved 100% student satisfaction at THE COMB INSTITUTE.

The funny part , students love it, and even years after they finish their program they still call or text for advices.
Plus no more stress as a teacher.

Today there is a new revolution in education ,,,, but that is another topic !!!!
