10 REASONS TO APPRECIATE AN EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER
🌱 We are not daycare workers, we are Early Childhood Professionals. Our lesson plans every day includes: how to share, how to have “nice hands” and “walking feet,” how to say please and thank you, how to walk behind someone without pushing, how to take turns, and how to have “listening ears.”
🌱 We are not just teachers. We are also janitors and nurses. We make boo-boos feel better and dry up tears. We spray, wipe, sanitize, sweep, mop, vacuum, and take out the trash.
🌱 We are waitresses. We balance little trays and cups of milk. We pick up squashed peas off the floor and scoop peaches when asked for more.
🌱 We change 5 dirty diapers, within 10 minutes, the day after beef and corn.
🌱 We get 18 little ducklings to follow in a row on their way to the playground.
🌱 We tie tiny shoes.....snap tiny pants. Fold tiny blankies. Wipe tiny noses. Spend 5 minutes fixing the heels of tiny Converses. Now multiply all of this by 18 on some days.
🌱 We are there before parents go to work and-or don’t go home until the last kid is picked up as the second hand ticks to closing time.
🌱 We lay out cots, pillows, and blankies. We know who gets a pacifier, who gets a 6 oz bottle, who has to have all the lights out, who will wake up early, who came in late and will lay awake. We sit between cots patting restless toddlers to sleep. We spend the rest of nap time keeping the one early riser from waking the others.
🌱 We go home and take care of our own families and homes, or our own children. 🌱 We somehow find time to rest our tired feet.
🌱 We tie tiny shoes.....snap tiny pants. Fold tiny blankies. Wipe tiny noses. Spend 5 minutes fixing the heels of tiny Converse. Now multiply all of this by 18 on some days and learn, smile and play. We laugh at the funny things the kids always say.
