Our 4th graders were busy exploring magnetism last week!

As part of our science unit aligned with North Carolina Standards, students learned how magnets interact with different materials. They made predictions, tested a variety of objects, and compared their results to see whether their hypotheses were correct.

Hands-on learning like this helps students build real scientific thinking — observing, predicting, experimenting, and reflecting. Proud of their curiosity and teamwork!

🦅📚 Mrs. Elliott’s 5th graders were hard at work today learning about the Inca Empire as part of their study of the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas!

Students read independently and with partners, comparing the Inca Empire to other early civilizations in South America while building their reading, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

We love seeing our Eagles engaged in meaningful learning and discovering how people and cultures from the past have shaped our world today. Great job, 5th grade! 💙💛

✖️🔢 Multiplication comes to life in Mrs. Castano’s class! 🔢✖️

Today, Mrs. Castano’s students used multiplication arrays to help make their multiplication facts more meaningful. By organizing objects into equal rows and columns, students can see the math behind the facts they are learning.

For example, an array with 3 rows of 4 shows 3 × 4 = 12. Seeing, building, and counting the groups helps students understand why the multiplication fact works—not just memorize the answer. 🧠✨

These activities also strengthen numeration and number sense, helping students develop a deeper understanding of numbers and how they relate to one another. At the same time, students are building fluency and working toward quickly and confidently recalling their multiplication facts.

We love watching our Eagles turn multiplication facts into something they can see, build, and understand! 🦅💙

At recess, our kindergartners were singing “Ring Around the Rosie,” a nursery rhyme they had been learning and reciting as part of their CKLA lesson. When Principal Brewer asked if they wanted to play, they immediately grabbed each other’s hands, formed a circle, and began reciting the rhyme together.

And when they all fell down at the end? The laughter that followed was absolutely priceless! 🥰😂

It was such a simple, joyful moment—but it’s also a beautiful example of learning coming to life. Through CKLA, our kindergartners build vocabulary, oral language, background knowledge, and reading comprehension through meaningful experiences with language, stories, nursery rhymes, and more. 📚✨

We love watching our Eagles learn, play, laugh, and make memories together! 🦅💙

The 2025-2026 School Performance Grades show strong academic momentum at J.R. Ingram Elementary. The school saw a SEVEN point increase in overall performance score and a 10% increase in student proficiency in just one year!

That progress builds on a strong foundation, as J.R. Ingram has now met expected growth for six straight years – a powerful reflection of the consistent work of students, staff, and families.
