Our Academy Ambassadors had a blast today at the FirstHealth of the Carolinas Career Fair! We look forward to this event every year and introducing our district 8th grade students to all aspects of healthcare. Our high school students have just as much fun as the 8th graders!

Our Foundations classes have had a busy week! On Wednesday we visited Central Carolina Hospital to see all of the areas of the hospital that help it run efficiently. Yesterday, we had a visit from Mrs. Farrah Ashley, PT at FirstHealth of the Carolinas as she talked with students all about physical therapy, and they even got to see firsthand some of the exercises she does with her patients. Today we learned all about empathy by simulating various health impairments, and then playing games. Students were able to put themselves in the shoes of patients with vision, hearing and manual dexterity impairments to see what it is like for patients

Our Health Science I students were so excited to spend some time with first graders at Tramway Elementary School yesterday! The first graders are finishing up a body systems unit and our students got to help them make their own first aid kit and plastic lungs. The big kids enjoyed just as much as the little kids. Thank you for having us!

Thank you to the FirstHealth of the Carolinas EMS teams for coming to speak to our Health Science I students on Friday. We have been learning about first responders and types of emergencies. This opportunity allowed students to put together concepts and ask some great questions.

Thank you Sanford Fire Department, A shift at Station 2, for coming out and visiting with Health Science I students this morning. We learned a lot about being first responders and the students had some great questions!

Health Science I students got some hands-on practice with anatomical terms, body planes, abdominal cavities, and body regions. These hands-on activities help reinforce concepts while allowing students to have fun and work together. We are off to a great start this year!

We are still looking for sponsors for our program and students. Please reach out to Ms. Davis if you are able to help and please share! Our programs rely very heavily on community support and sponsorships and our goal is to help every student achieve their goals!
