Theresa Hernandez, Piano Lessons Private piano lessons
Over ten years of experience teaching piano
BA in Music Education
FL Certified Private Piano Lessons virtually over Zoom.

I have a BA in Music Education from Loyola University-New Orleans. I hold a K-12 Music Education certificate from the state of Florida and my previous teaching experience includes teaching piano at a Performing Arts Middle School for over ten years. I have a passion for teaching and believe that everyone can learn to play regardless of previous experience, disability or background. I cater lessons

to each individual student's needs and interests while still making sure students learn basic music reading skills and technique. I specialize in meeting students where they are at and developing lessons that meet special needs. I love to make learning fun and use music theory games and activities to engage and excite learners! For online lessons, I use both a camera to the side of my piano so students can see my face and an overhead camera so they can see my hands on the piano. I screenshare many different games and activities so students can develop music reading skills and to keep student engagement high. After each lesson, I send out practice notes through Google Drive to help students learn specific practice skills and to know what to practice. I host two online recitals per year where all students get to choose a song to perform and invite their friends and family to attend. At the recitals, I also give out piano awards for students who have met specific practice goals in our practice challenges throughout the year. I mail students trophies who have met these goals and present them at our recitals. For online lessons, students will need a computer, laptop or tablet, high speed internet, and a keyboard with at least 61 keys (mid-size) at home. I offer a free fifteen minute trial before you start lessons to see show how virtual lessons work and help you set up Zoom correctly. If you live in Florida and your student recieves the Step Up For Students- Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities, you can use your scholarhip money to pay for private piano lessons with me because I am a direct pay provider.

We had our Annual Recital and Awards Ceremony this past Saturday and Elijah did a fantastic job of performing Pirates of the Caribbean! He also earned a personalized trophy which I mailed to him before our Online Awards Ceremony. He earned the trophy for completing everything on his Guided Practice Plan (Technique, Current Song, Sightreading, Theory and Review) before his lesson every week. He did a great job of earning an average of 9 out of 10 points over the semester for always completing his Guided Practice Plan ahead of time!

We just had our Annual Online Winter Recital on Saturday and Lily did a fantastic job playing this jazzy arrangement of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer! In addition to hosting this online recital, I also had an awards ceremony for students who completed the Guided Practice Challenge. This challenge required students to complete everything on their Guided Practice Plan (Technique, Current Song, Theory, Sightreading and Review) before each lesson. The plan gets updated every week so there are always new things to work on. Students who earned this award got points each week and earned an average of 8-9 points over the semester to earn a trophy. I personalized and mailed each of these trophies to them before the recital and presented them at the Online Awards ceremony. Lily always does a fantastic job of practicing and she earns a new trophy every year!

We just had our annual Online Winter Recital on Saturday! Each student was introduced and spotlighted by me and they each played for all the online guests from their own pianos in the comfort of their own home. Audience members watched from a second device on their TVs to enjoy the experience. This video is Colton playing Peaceful Valley, a piece he composed himself! What a beautiful performance!
