Lakeside United Methodist Church

Lakeside United Methodist Church Sunday Services : 8:30am & 10:45am We do this by inviting you to live out your faith in four primary ways: worship, grow, serve, and celebrate.

We are a United Methodist community located in Sanford, Florida that helps you take the next faithful step in coming to know, love, and trust Jesus more. Whether you are ever able to join us in person or choose to engage with our community online: wherever you are, we are the church together!

We were never meant to go through this life alone, yet relationships and community can be hard. At the Last Supper, Jesus prays for us in a way that is meant to shape our life together.

These were the last words Jesus spoke from the cross in the Gospel of Luke. They aren't an empty platitude, but they are an expression of deep trust.

Jesus is quoting from Psalm 31, where the writer was dealing with depression on account of his circumstance and suffering.

Yet, he found that the only way forward was to trust God.

Did you know that Jesus didn't want to die on the cross?

It's true. In the final moments before he was arrested, he asked God if there was another way.

But while he didn't want the pain and suffering he would soon face, he *did* want what it would achieve - the defeat of sin and death, opening the way to our salvation.

We don't have to get excited about everything God has for us, but we can follow Jesus' example of trust in God's will and God's ultimate goodness.

Sermon Title: When We Don’t Want To
Scripture: Matthew 26:39, Luke 23:46

Just because something is God’s will doesn’t mean we’ll want to do it or go through it. Jesus models for us what prayer look like when what’s needed most isn’t surface-level joy but deep trust.

Jesus prayed these words as soldiers nailed him to the cross. This wasn't simply a prayer for them, but for all of us.

When we come face-to-face with failure and its consequences, let us remember that the one who took upon himself the ultimate consequence for our sin also prayed for our forgiveness.

Jesus knew Peter was about to deny him three times and run away. Jesus' prayer was not that Peter would somehow be strong enough to be perfect, but that this moment wouldn't cause his faith to fail.

When we face failure, when we fall short, when we fail to live up to who we know we can be, Jesus prays the same for us.

May the conviction of the Holy Spirit lead us back to the love of God and not drive us away in fear or despair.

Sermon Title: When We Fail
Scripture: Luke 22:31–32, 23:33-34

When we find ourselves in the wake of failure, knowing that we have not lived up to God’s ideal in our lives, what should we pray? Does God even want to talk to us anymore?

When we are facing challenges in life, do we turn to prayer wholeheartedly, do we struggle to know what to pray, or do we doubt that prayer can or will do anything? We can learn from and be encouraged by the prayers Jesus prayed when he faced his moments of greatest challenge.
