6th-grade mathematicians brought rational numbers to life today! Students matched real-world situations with positive and negative rational numbers and discussed what absolute value represents in each situation. They used examples such as temperatures, money, and elevations to explain that absolute value represents a number’s distance from zero. It was great to see students collaborating, discussing their thinking, and making connections between math and the real world!

Putting on our detective hats in science today! 🔍🕵️‍♂️

​As Mrs. Hicks and her 5th grade students explore the nature and practice of science, they have been breaking down each step of the scientific method. Today’s big focus was understanding how to make inferences - connecting background knowledge with brand-new evidence/information.

​To bring the concept to life, the students turned into forensic investigators on a mission to figure out who Mrs. Hicks' "new neighbors" are. By examining clues from their "trash" and pairing the evidence with things they already knew, they pieced together the neighbors' habits, pets, and hobbies like absolute pros.

​Watching their gears turn as they debated clues and defended their theories was pure Au! Future scientists in the making! 🧪✨

🔬🗳️ Scientists & Citizens in the Making! 🗳️🔬

Mrs. Brewer, Mr. Giguere, and their 4th and 5th grade classes have been learning all about what a scientist is and what scientists do! Today, students explored some of the tools they’ll be using throughout the year as they prepare for lots of hands-on science labs and investigations. 🧪🔍

The students also took advantage of Election Day to learn about the voting process! 🇺🇸 They cast their votes for representatives to fill different class jobs and proudly wore their “I Voted” stickers afterward!

We love seeing our students learning through real-world experiences—whether they’re investigating like scientists or participating like citizens! 💙🐉

Learning in Motion!
Today in Algebra, our students put their problem-solving and collaboration skills to work during a fun gallery walk! Students connected their prior knowledge to graphs of functions as they worked together to identify the parent functions and corresponding equations that matched each graph.
It was a great opportunity for students to think critically, share their reasoning, learn from one another, and put their mathematical knowledge into action. We love seeing our Dragons tackle challenging concepts with curiosity, teamwork, and a little fun along the way! 🐉💡📊

Over the past month, our Riverbend community has experienced an incredibly unexpected and challenging situation, but through it all, we have been reminded just how amazing our community is.
