BLET First Responders Training

Last week, our Central Carolina Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) cadets completed their First Responders block of instruction, gaining essential skills that every law enforcement officer may need in the field.

During this training, the cadets learned:

* CPR and lifesaving emergency care
*How to recognize the signs and symptoms of a variety of medical emergencies
*How to assess and care for patients until advanced medical help arrives
* Emergency childbirth and how to assist during a delivery until EMS arrives
*How to protect themselves while providing emergency care through proper safety precautions and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Law enforcement officers are often the first to arrive on the scene of a medical emergency.

This training helps ensure our future officers are prepared to respond with confidence, compassion, and professionalism when every second counts.

A special thank you to Chloe Fuquay, Ian Jones, Jackson Owens, Tabitha Brown, Georgia Schmidt, and Eva Schwartz for volunteering their time to serve as patients during our practical exercises.

Your participation helped create realistic training scenarios that allowed our cadets to apply their skills in a hands-on learning environment.

We truly appreciate your willingness to help make this training a success!

We are proud of the hard work and dedication these cadets continue to demonstrate as they prepare to serve and protect our communities.

We were excited to give the Lee County School- Project Lift Off an inside look at how the Emergency Services Training Center serves the community.
During our demonstration, we showed them how first responders like EMTs,Firefighters and law enforcement officers—train to handle real-life emergencies and the different equipment we have to train on.
We explained and demonstrated how we offer hands-on, realistic training scenarios that prepare these professionals to act quickly and effectively in crisis situations.
It was a great opportunity to help the kids understand the importance of emergency preparedness and inspire them to consider careers in public safety.
Most importantly, we wanted them to see how our community works together to stay safe.

This week, our BLET class participated in a Crowd Control block of instruction, focusing on the critical role law enforcement officers play in maintaining public safety during large gatherings, demonstrations, and high-stress incidents.

This training emphasized the importance of communication, teamwork, situational awareness, and decision-making while ensuring the safety of the public, officers, and everyone involved. Students learned proper crowd management techniques, de-escalation strategies, and the legal responsibilities officers must follow during crowd-related events.

Through classroom instruction and practical exercises, cadets gained valuable knowledge on how to respond professionally and effectively in rapidly changing situations while protecting constitutional rights and maintaining order.

Training like this prepares future officers to handle challenging situations with professionalism, restraint, and confidence.

Last week, our BLET class participated in a hands-on mock courtroom exercise focused on testifying in court.

This practical training gave cadets the opportunity to experience what it is like to take the witness stand and present testimony in a professional courtroom setting.

Testifying in court is one of the most important responsibilities of a law enforcement officer.

An officer’s testimony can directly impact victims, defendants, juries, and the overall outcome of a case.

Through this exercise, cadets learned the importance of credibility, professionalism, preparation, and truthful testimony while following North Carolina laws and courtroom procedures.

Using the North Carolina Justice Academy block of instruction, cadets practiced proper courtroom demeanor, report review, responding to direct and cross-examination questions, and presenting facts clearly and confidently.

This training reinforced the importance of integrity, attention to detail, and effective communication when testifying in court.

Exercises like these help prepare future officers for real-world courtroom situations while ensuring they understand the responsibility and accountability that comes with serving the citizens of North Carolina

Today, we conducted a hands-on training focused on breaching and forcible entry techniques for law enforcement personnel.

Participants gained valuable experience in safely and effectively making forced entry when access is denied. The training covered a range of door types, locking mechanisms, and the proper use of tools and techniques, with a strong emphasis on both safety and precision.

Through realistic, scenario-based exercises, students built confidence while strengthening critical skills such as teamwork, communication, and rapid decision-making under pressure.

Training like this ensures our personnel are prepared to respond effectively when seconds matter most.
