Bring your family, your friends and, of course, your four legged companions out for a great cause.

Veterans Upward Bound is excited to be a vendor at this year's 5K9 Dog Jog hosted by Vets to Vets United on Saturday, Sept. 26 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. This incredible event supports veterans with disabilities and the rescued service dogs that help them regain independence, confidence and quality of life.

If you're attending the race, be sure to stop by our booth. We'd love to meet you, share how Veterans Upward Bound helps veterans prepare for college, career training and new opportunities, and connect you with resources available throughout our community.

We look forward to seeing you and cheering on all of the participants, both two legged and four legged.

A new semester is more than the start of new classes. It is an opportunity to reset your routines, refocus your priorities, and invest in your overall well being. Success in school is not just measured by grades. It is also influenced by your physical health, mental wellness, and ability to maintain balance throughout the semester.

Start by setting realistic goals that support both your academic and personal growth. Prioritize quality sleep, make time for regular physical activity, fuel your body with healthy meals, and schedule breaks throughout the week. Small, consistent habits are often more effective than dramatic changes and can help improve focus, reduce stress, and increase resilience.

Remember that taking care of yourself is not a distraction from your education. It is one of the best ways to prepare yourself for success. A healthy mind and body provide the foundation for learning, overcoming challenges, and reaching your goals.

As you begin this fall semester, commit to becoming a healthier version of yourself one step at a time. Veterans Upward Bound is here to support you throughout your educational journey and help you build habits that lead to long term success.

Here's to a successful, healthy, and rewarding 2026 through 2027 school year!

The GI Bill and Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) are two of the most valuable education benefits available to veterans, but understanding the differences can help you make the most of what you have earned. While both programs can help pay for education and training, they are designed to meet different needs and career goals.

The GI Bill is an education benefit earned through military service that can help cover tuition, fees, books, and housing while you pursue a college degree, technical training, apprenticeship, or certification. It gives veterans the flexibility to choose the educational path that best fits their future.

VR&E, formerly known as Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, is designed for eligible veterans with service connected disabilities. Rather than simply paying for school, VR&E focuses on helping veterans prepare for, obtain, and maintain meaningful employment. Depending on your individual circumstances, the program may provide tuition assistance, required supplies, career counseling, resume development, job placement services, and other support tailored to your long term employment goals.

Choosing between the GI Bill and VR&E is not always straightforward. In some situations, veterans may even be able to use both benefits strategically throughout their educational journey. Understanding your eligibility, career objectives, and available options can help you maximize the benefits you have earned through your service.

Veterans Upward Bound is here to help you explore your options and prepare for success. We can answer questions about education benefits, connect you with the right resources, and help you build a plan that supports your academic and career goals.

Your future starts with understanding the benefits you have earned. Contact Veterans Upward Bound today to learn how we can help you take the next step.

The biggest milestones are often built on moments that no one else notices.

Registering for your first class. Showing up when you are tired. Studying after work. Asking for help when you need it. Setting a new goal after reaching the last one. These are the quiet victories that lay the foundation for long term success.

It is easy to celebrate graduation or earning a degree, but those achievements are only possible because of the countless small decisions made along the way. Every assignment completed, every class attended, and every obstacle overcome is another step closer to your goal.

At Veterans Upward Bound, we believe those moments deserve recognition. We celebrate every milestone because we know that lasting success is built one step at a time.

Keep moving forward. The work you are doing today is creating the future you have been working toward.
