This afternoon at Sanford High School, we held the Naming Rights Ceremony honoring Karen with the dedication of the Alternative Education Suite in her name. It's a fitting tribute for someone who has spent nearly three decades creating a place where students who needed it most could find support, belonging, and a path to graduation.

Karen built the Alternative Education program into something truly special: a smaller, relationship-based learning environment where students could rebuild confidence and stay on track.

As Karen steps into a well-deserved retirement, her legacy lives on. Not just in the name on that door, but in every student who walked across the stage because she believed in them. 💙

This week, the Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation dedicated the high school's food cupboard as The Jocelyn B. Hartford School Food Cupboard, in honor of a volunteer who gave so much of herself to our community.

Jocelyn showed up every week, in the heat, the rain, and the snow, always smiling, always with something to share. She was a friendly face, a listening ear, and a magical friend to everyone she met.

Her name now lives in the place she loved.

This morning, 4th graders from Carl J. Lamb Elementary, Sanford Pride Elementary, and Margaret Chase Smith Elementary hit the road for some amazing real-world learning, visiting Moody's Collision & Auto Body Repair and Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport!

And yes, those matching shirts? That's the Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation at work! We were proud to provide shirts for all of our young explorers as they represented the Sanford School Department in the community today.

A huge thank you to Moody's Collision & Auto Body Repair and Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport for opening their doors and inspiring the next generation of Sanford's workforce. This is exactly why we do what we do — investing in our kids and our community!

Let's celebrate Ms. Karen Webb at Sanford High School! 🎉
Karen is retiring in June after nearly 30 years serving students in Sanford schools — most recently as the director of the Alternative Education program, where she has spent her career meeting students where they are and helping them find their path to graduation.
Her friends and fans at the Legacy Foundation are raising funds to name the Alternative Education Suite in her honor — and every dollar collected will go directly back to support the Alternative Education Program!

“Truly it's bittersweet that we are saying goodbye, you are going to be very missed! But with the funds the Legacy Foundation donations will go toward enhanced playground equipment and toys year after year, so even though we are losing our beloved Mrs. Smith, her legacy will live on year after year for many more kindergarten students to come,” said Lydia Lehoux, PTA president and president of the Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation.
