Today, we pause in profound gratitude for those who have served, those who continue to serve, and especially for those who gave their lives in defense of this nation. Their sacrifice preserved far more than land or liberty alone. It safeguarded homes and families, upheld hope in uncertain times, and protected the quiet, ordinary blessings that so often pass unnoticed.
This Memorial Day, we remember with reverence. We honor with gratitude. And we carry forward the responsibility of never forgetting.

โ
On the 8th day of celebrating what would have been Dr. Dick Barnesโ 90th birthday, we reflect on his passion for education, and the creation of the Dr. Dick Barnes Group.โ
โ
Dr. Barnes often said, โI donโt consider other dentists to be my competitors. I consider them to be my colleagues.โ After achieving exceptional results with his patients, Dr. Barnes invited local dentists to his Rialto, CA, practice, so they could view him working โover his shoulder.โ He believed that helping more dentists meant helping more patients.โ
โ
This spirit of collaboration eventually led to the founding of the Dr. Dick Barnes Group (DDBG). Today, through DDBG seminars, dentists from across the country learn the advanced methods, systems, and philosophies that lead to exceptional outcomes. The seminars are delivered in a practical format so dentists can begin applying their newfound knowledge immediately.โ
โ
The DDBG mission has always been simple: โTo help dentists become better and more productive.โ That mission has now impacted thousands of practices and continues to shape the future of comprehensive dentistry.โ

Today, in our seventh post honoring what would have been Dr. Dick Barnesโ 90th birthday, we reflect on his philosophy of leadership and the power of teamwork.โ
โ
Dr. Barnes often said, โYou do not make yourself successfulโother people make you successful.โ He also taught, โYour ability to thrive as a dentist is more dependent on your team than on any other factor.โ That philosophy remains foundational at Arrowhead today.โ
โ
Arrowheadโs success has always been built on the skilled technicians and dedicated professionals who bring craftsmanship, attention to detail, and pride to every case they touch.โ
โ
Dr. Barnes did not believe in micromanagement. He believed in trust, empowerment, and creating an environment where people could do their best work. As he said, โWhen team members feel trusted, believe that their opinions matter, and are empowered with their own diverse talents, they become dream team members.โ His leadership philosophy continues to shape our culture and the way we serve our doctors every day.โ

โ
In the sixth post honoring Dr. Dick Barnes, we highlight his relentless drive to find a better way.โ
โ
In the 1970s, Dr. Barnesโ reputation grew through the comprehensive outcomes he delivered for his patients. But he became frustrated that local dental labs could not provide the aesthetics and quality that his patients deserved. While searching for a lab, Dr. Barnes had a simple thought, โI should just start a lab.โ So he did.โ
โ
Dr. Barnes recruited a ceramist whose skills were up to the challenge, rented a small room near his dental practice, and furnished it with a desk, furnace, and materials. The directive for the new lab was clear: โWe will create the worldโs most beautiful teeth because my patients deserve nothing less.โ That was the humble beginning of Arrowhead Dental Lab.โ
โ
After seeing the results that Dr. Barnes achieved with his patients; other dentists soon began asking to use his lab. Over the decades, Arrowhead has grown and evolved, but our purpose remains unchangedโto create the worldโs most beautiful teeth for every dentist who trusts us as a partner in their patientsโ care.โ

Today is the fifth day of a series of memories honoring Arrowheadโs founder, Dr. Dick Barnes, in the runup to his 90th birthday on May 6!
Dr. Barnes was an early advocate of personal growth. Stephen R. Covey (pictured with Dr. Barnes), author of one of Dr. Barnesโ favorite books, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, became a friend and mentor. Dr. Barnes said, โI was always shy in high school and hoped the teachers would never call on me.โ But he studied and worked to improve his confidence, eventually feeling comfortable speaking in front of hundreds of dentists.
Overcoming hardships was a topic so important to Dr. Barnes that one of his final articles for Aesthetic Dentistry magazine, was entitled, โDo What Scares You.โ He wrote, โThe cure to fear and doubt is to have hope and faith.โ This mantra served Dr. Barnes well throughout his life and enabled him to tackle many โhard things,โ like skippering a boat, piloting airplanes, and starting new businesses.

โ
As we continue with posts honoring Dr. Dick Barnesโ legacy, today, we remember his legacy as a practicing dentist. At his dental practice in Rialto, CA, Dr. Barnes often shared his knowledge of comprehensive dentistry with other dentists in his surrounding area. They witnessed his techniques firsthand so they could offer the same kind of care for their patients.โ
โ
Long before comprehensive dentistry became widely accepted, Dr. Barnes was practicing it and bringing it to communities where it was rarely offered. While many doctors and patients at that time accepted dentures as inevitable, Dr. Barnes challenged that idea with a simple message. He said, โI want my patients to keep their permanent teeth.โโ
โ
To him, the goal was always providing the best dentistry to everyone. He said, โPeople are people, wherever they live. They deserve the opportunity to have the very best dentistry available.โ โ

Today, on the third day of honoring our founder, we look back at Marquette University, where Dr. Barnes earned his dental degree in 1962.
As a student, Dr. Barnes was recognized with the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators award, an early reflection of his commitment to mastering his craft.
But for him, graduation wasnโt the finish line, it was the starting point. He said, โMany dentists, even today, believe that once they finish dental school, thatโs it, the learning stops. But education and learning is a lifetime process.โ
That belief led to the founding of the Dr. Dick Barnes Group, established with the idea that dentists should never stop growing, improving, and refining the care they provide to their patients.
