East Sandy is excited to announce the 2025 Teacher of the Year as Emily Lanie. Ms. Em teaches our Kindergarten through 2nd grade special education cluster class. She joined our school team last year and does a fantastic job building student relationships and adding a positive energy to our school community. Ms. Em consistently demonstrates her passion for fostering learning and student success. She goes above and beyond to create a welcoming and inclusive classroom for all students. We are so proud to have Ms. Em represent East Sandy as our Teacher of the Year! 💙

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Mustangs celebrated Constitution Day with a fun assembly featuring Sandy City Mayor Monica Zoltanski and our own Alison Stroud, Sandy City Councilwoman.They learned about community and how we all work together. They also learned about the new Sandy City Flag and how it was created. 💙

September is the month of CONNECTION at East Sandy. Connection is the foundation of healthy relationships. It allows us to build empathy, enhance communication skills, and foster positive interactions. This month Ms. Paige, our School Social Worker, will be teaching lessons in each classroom about what connection is, why it matters, and how we build it.

Our theme day will be a SURPRISE MATCH DAY on Thursday, September 26th! Keep an eye out for more information on what color your class will be wearing later this month! 💙

East Sandy’s Wellness Word of the Month for May is COPING SKILLS! Coping skills are things we can do to help ourselves feel safe, calm, and comfortable when we have big feelings, changes, or challenges. Coping Skills might include things like counting to 10, thinking positive thoughts, being creative, talking to a friend, breathing techniques, exercising, and more. Everyone has big feelings from time to time, so be sure to practice Coping Skills! 💙

East Sandy’s Wellness Word of the Month for April is CREATIVITY! Creativity means using your imagination to come up with new ideas. Being creative helps us solve problems, express ourselves, and have fun! We can boost our creativity by doing things like reading, listening to music, trying new things, and spending time outside. 💙

Today we tipped our hats off to East Sandy. Tomorrow we are starting the party early and wearing our PJ’s to school. On Wednesday we are showing off our school pride by wearing our East Sandy Mustang shirts! Thursday we will show we are crazy for East Sandy by wearing our craziest socks. We end the week on Friday by showing we are inside out with love by wearing our clothes inside out or backwards.

We are so proud to announce that the 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year for East Sandy is Elise Hillstrom!! Ms. Hillstrom has taught 1st grade for the last 3 years. Here are a few of the great things that were mentioned when nominating Ms. Hillstrom:
“Ms. Hillstrom teaches with a perfect combo of kindness and tough. She is loving to her students, but she also holds them to her expectations of them.”
“Ms. Hillstrom’s class is always smiling because she brings so much joy to her classroom. And because the students have such a good relationship with her, they learn and grow better.”
“Elise Hillstrom is such an asset to East Sandy Elementary. There is not one kid that comes in the door that doesn’t run up to hug her and say hello.”

Last Friday was Career Day at East Sandy! Each class heard from 4 volunteers about their professions. We had a photographer, an architect, an attorney, several nurses, a midwife, an ASL interpreter, an electrician and more! We are so grateful for our amazing parent volunteers that made time to come and share with our students. 💙

We are celebrating Red + White Ribbon Week at East Sandy Elementary! The Red Ribbon symbolizes action and encourages conversations that keep kids substance-free. The White Ribbon promotes media literacy, safe technology use, and making healthy choices online. Studies show that effective prevention strategies for youth should focus on these areas: Family Bonding, Community Connection, Healthy Relationships, and Personal Development. Join us next week as we participate in fun activities at school and home to strengthen these 4 concepts. A schedule of the theme and activity for each day is included below:
