This past Monday I had the amazing privilege of performing my original composition, "Against the Tide" with the amazing Carmen Wolthuis Hall and Jeremy Starr. I got a recording this time around even though the camera position was slightly too close. I hope to publish it soon so others can perform it too. I hope you enjoy it:

When I wrote Against the Tide, I originally had no personal agenda in mind. However, feelings derived from life experience still managed to shine throughout my music and the title came to me at the conclusion of the composing process. I often feel I do not fit the mold of the social environments around me. I am like a foreigner in a new country fighting against the tides of society. Over the years this has led to self-isolation finding places where I felt I belonged and could be happy emotionally. One of those homes is music and this composition is part of where I feel I am my complete self. Part of being human is feeling we sometimes do not belong, but in my opinion we are all perfect regardless of the tides fighting us. We create our own tide of a fulfilling life.
Throughout this composition, I encourage the audience to listen for feelings of struggle, adventure, culture shock in social situations, elation, and triumph that paint the picture of living a life against the tide.
