When Denisse and I first started teaching our beginner high school guitar class, we wanted our students to achieve a "small victory" on the very first day of playing.
So it was crucial to find the right song!
If you're into 90's grunge and rock then maybe you've heard of the iconic song "Zombie" by The Cranberries?
It turned out that this was the perfect first song to learn. The simple fact that we were able to get everyone to strum a very, very simple strumming pattern while the real song played, was very motivational. Nobody skipped our class!
We added a little bit to the strumming pattern each day and each week.
Until about 4-6 weeks (depending on the size of the class), students were rockin' the full strumming pattern and playing along to the real song as if they were in the band too.
So now we want to share this beginner program with the world but only if you're fan of 90's rock and grunge!

Traditional guitar lessons are about to become a thing of the past in my opinion. Most guitar teachers are generalists that promise you that they can teach you any song from any style or genre. The future of learning guitar will instead be done by specialists who hyper-focus on just one genre, one style, one learning method, or even...ONE SONG. You will be grouped with like-minded students who are also learning that exact same song! This creates a thriving environment because you can see your peers working on the same challenges.
Maybe you’ve heard of Roger Bannister, the man who made history on May 6, 1954, by becoming the first to run a mile in under four minutes. Before his achievement, breaking the four-minute barrier was widely believed to be impossible. But once Bannister proved it could be done, countless others followed in his footsteps, achieving the same feat. Seeing someone accomplish what was once thought unattainable instills a powerful sense of belief in others, giving them the confidence to pursue and reach that same goal.
My specialty is finding and teaching beginners who love rock and grunge and teaching them the iconic song from the 90's - "Zombie" by The Cranberries. I think, soon, everyone will realize that you will thrive with a specialist because of the community they are creating. You can get ahead of the curve with this new learning method.

Cam has made considerable progress lately! We jammed out to some (the verse) of Sweet Child o' Mine on Saturday! The next chord we'll learn is A Major :)
So excited to have Eliana with us as well. She played along to a song (Zombie) on her VERY first day - with real full chords! As far as I'm aware, she's never played guitar before that day.

In January, we're going to dive a little deeper into the melodies of the songs we've been playing - Another Brick In The Wall, Hotel California, Hey Jude, The Chain, etc.
Learning melodies on a single string has a lot of benefits! You'll learn essential finger patterns (for major and minor scales). You'll learn solfège that will help in your ear training. You'll also learn the notes which will also help in mastering the fretboard.
Here we go!

Shout out to Camden who has made considerable progress over the past little while! We've been jamming out to Zombie by The Cranberries as well as Can't Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake lately.
And we're also excited to have Eliana join this student group this Saturday. She's brand new to the guitar and is excited to join the band!

I create customized lesson plans for the songs you want to learn. Learning a new song is more than just slowing it down and trying to tackle the entire thing at once. Although, sometimes that can work. But for many students, I've found that it can help if it's broken down into bite-sized chunks.
