It's time for another video showing the progress of the NEW North Springs building, on schedule to open for students in August 2027!

Things are really coming along! Toward the end of the video, you can see the white steel that was used in the Topping Ceremony earlier this month, when students, school leaders, community members, and the construction team signed the beam before it was put in place in what will be the Chorus classroom!

North Springs honored and celebrated our athletes at the recent All Sports Banquet. At the event, we also bestow three special awards:

The Leonidas Award is named for the King of Sparta, who was known for his heroism. We award this honor to an athlete who, like Leonidas, showed leadership, courage, perseverance, dedication, and discipline. This year’s recipient is Justin Buchanan.

The Gorgo Award is named for the Queen of Sparta, who embodied duty and bravery. Queen Gorgo’s legacy is marked by her role as an influential figure in Spartan society. She, like the athlete awarded this honor, demonstrated the strength and wisdom expected of Spartan women. This year’s recipient is Leila Madesko.

Our Spartan Heart Award is given to a Spartan who has overcome obstacles and demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination, overcoming challenges to achieve success. This year’s recipient is Kate Lott.

Congratulations to these and all of the athletes honored! Go Spartans!

North Springs Freshmen Win National Poetry Contest, Earn Spots in Historic MLK Jr. Rose Garden

The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park and Preservation District and International World Peace Rose Gardens selected two North Springs High School Freshman Academy students as winners in their prestigious Inspirational Messages of Peace Contest. The winners were chosen from 4330 student entries nationwide.

Congratulations to Escarlett Lopez-Adame, who won for her poem, “The World Dream” and Sharon Omorodion, who was selected for her poem, “Living Waters of Peace.”

North Springs was the only high school with overall winners. There are now three North Springs students recognized with plaques in the Rose Garden in the last two years. Principal Hanson noted, "I have amazing teachers who are helping talented students raise their powerful voices!"

North Springs' Freshman Academy also boasts six honorable mentions in this contest:
Audrielle Halliburton for her poem, “Calm Words”
Lincoln Wright for his poem, “Neverending Peace”
Serenity R. Jackson for her poem, “Fine Lines”
Ashley Vega-Aguirre for her poem, “This is America”
Antonio Ezell for his poem, “Peacefully Declaring Peace”
Shelby Gibbons-McCrory for her poem, “Peace is the Future”

Students and their families attended the award ceremony at Ebenezer Baptist Church and had their pictures taken in the rose garden. Escarlett and Sharon each read their poems from the Ebenezer Baptist Church pulpit. In addition, their poetry will be engraved on and permanently displayed on plaques in the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park Rose Garden in Atlanta.

We're so proud of these members of our Freshman Academy for these impressive recognitions and wins. Thanks to Mrs. Kelly Olson, AP Human Geography teacher, who led the initiative for North Springs 9th-grade academy students to participate in this contest.

We’re so proud to celebrate members of our Freshman Academy who were honored by representatives from the Martin Luther King Center and the creators of the 34th annual “I Have a Dream” poetry contest.

Representatives visited North Springs High School to present certificates to six honorable mention winners and two winners out of over 4000 applicants from around the world. All eight students were also recognized from the pulpit at Ebenezer Baptist Church and our two winners read their poems from the pulpit where Martin Luther King, Jr. preached. These poems were engraved on plaques and displayed in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Rose Garden, where over 50,000 people visit every year. The plaques include their poems, their name and their school, North Springs HS. The NSHS Freshman Academy is so honored to participate and celebrate our winners! North Springs alumnus Daniel Jackson has become one of college baseball’s biggest stars.
Now the SEC Player of the Year, Jackson has hit 27 home runs this season after never hitting one over the fence before his senior year at North Springs.

The Athens Herald featured Daniel and his NSHS Baseball Coach Crowder talking about his time at North Springs.

We're so excited to see Daniel's tremendous success and are so proud that he is also a Spartan!

We couldn't let the school year end without celebrating the Class of 2026 one more time!
Thanks to Principal Hanson for these motivating and empowering words from his graduation address:

"...When life becomes difficult, do not quit on yourself. Continue pressing forward. Continue learning. Continue growing. Your future will not be determined by a single mistake or setback. It will be shaped by your resilience and your willingness to keep moving forward."

"As you leave high school behind, carry with you the values that helped you reach this moment: determination when things get hard, hard work when others give up, and motivation to keep chasing your goals even when success feels far away."

"But also remember this: success is not measured only by accomplishments, titles, or income. True success is measured by the impact you make on others. Be kind. Be dependable. Lift people up. Use your talents to make your communities stronger and your world better."

Go Spartans!

We are proud to award Alana Moran the very first Coach Carroll Legacy Scholarship!

Alana received a $500 scholarship.

Coach Byrd explained why Alana deserved this award:

"Alana Moran is the perfect recipient for this scholarship. Alana is a great student, and she is an exceptional athlete. Alana carried the flag football team, the basketball team, and the volleyball team on her back several times and led them to victories that would not have been possible without her presence. Alana competed and kept a great attitude - win or lose - and that is very hard to do when you lose more than you win, but Alana kept her head up and competed every time. Alana was always committed to doing the right thing and making sure the people around her did the right thing. Her school spirit is unmatched because she competed hard for North Springs and she always cheered on her peers to do the same. She held herself and others around her accountable. Alana Moran bleeds blue and orange and she has done it with pride for four years."

Congratulations, Alana!
